The symptoms of *Chuan Shi* (Transmitted Corpse Disease) in both men and women include fullness and oppression in the chest and heart, painful heat in the back and scapulae, dryness and astringency in the eyes, weakness in the four limbs, a constant desire to lie down yet inability to sleep soundly. The spine and paravertebral muscles may present with occasional mild dysentery, dryness of the nose and mouth, excessive sticky saliva, reddish lips at times, and drowsiness. Gradually, emaciation and weakness worsen, resembling a dried-up water source, leading to death without immediate awareness.
Another treatise states: *Chuan Shi* disease affects people of all ages and genders. Generally, this illness is transmitted among individuals; initially, toxic qi spreads internally throughout the five Zang organs, causing progressive emaciation until death. After death, it may transmit to another family member, hence the name *Chuan Shi* (Transmitted Corpse), also known as *Zhuan Zhu* (Rotating Note/Transmission). Because early symptoms involve alternating between lying and sitting, it is referred to as [Text Missing]. If accompanied by rapid breathing and coughing, it is named *Fei Wei* (Lung Withering). Heat in the bone marrow is called *Gu Zheng* (Bone Steaming). Internal transmission to the five Zang organs is termed *Fu Lian* (Repeated Connection). Without treatment, it may lead to infertility or extinction of the lineage. If contracted by a man due to deficiency damage, it is called *Lao Ji* (Extreme Consumption). Its origin begins in the Kidney. Initially, there is soreness and pain in the lower legs, stiffness and tension in the waist and spine, weakness in walking and standing, reduced appetite, buzzing sounds in the ears resembling strong wind, nocturnal emissions during sleep, sweating in the genital area, and atrophy/weakness of the genitals. After the Kidney is affected, the pathogen transmits to the Heart. When the Heart first receives the Qi, there is fright during sleep, palpitations, a sensation of emptiness and shortness of breath, intermittent feverishness feeling as if energy is exhausted, dreams of deceased relatives, spontaneous sweating, loss of taste, oral ulcers, a desire for sleep, symptoms that are milder in the morning and heavier in the evening, red cheeks and lips like rouge, and heat in the five centers (palms, soles, and chest). After the Heart is affected, it transmits to the Lung. When the Lung is affected, there is chest fullness and coughing, physical weakness, occasional rapid panting which worsens when lying down, dryness of the nose and mouth, anosmia/hyposmia, and if any smell is perceived, it seems putrid. Food odors may cause nausea and a sense of mental confusion with vomiting. Skin becomes dry and rough, with occasional stinging pain resembling insects crawling, fine scaling like bran flakes. After the Lung is affected, it transmits to the Liver. When the Liver first receives the Qi, vision becomes blurred, complexion loses luster, frequent frowning occurs, distance vision is impaired, eyes are constantly dry and astringent, sometimes red and painful, or yellow sclera. There is morning and evening visual obscurity, a constant desire to close the eyes, yet difficulty sleeping even when lying down. After the Liver is affected, it transmits to the Spleen. Spleen...
