The syndrome of pediatric toxic swelling is indistinguishable from wind swelling. It often causes high fever in the child. If the pathogenic evil and toxin are excessive, they may enter the abdomen, leading to a red complexion, aversion to cold, mental restlessness with stifling sensation, vomiting and regurgitation, rapid breathing, and abdominal distension. If such symptoms appear, prompt treatment is required; otherwise, it may be fatal.
**Xijiao San (Rhinoceros Horn Powder)** for treating pediatric toxic swelling accompanied by high fever and mental restlessness:
Rhino Cornu (Xi Jiao) (half liang), Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma (Da Huang) (one liang, crushed and slightly stir-fried), Honeycomb (Lu Feng Fang) (one fen, slightly stir-fried), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Sheng Ma) (half liang), Ophiopogonis Radix (Mai Men Dong) (half liang, heart removed and baked), Forsythiae Fructus (Lian Qiao) (one fen), Mirabilite (Pu Xiao) (one fen), Arctii Fructus (Niu Bang Zi) (one fen, slightly stir-fried), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gan Cao) (one fen, honey-fried until slightly red and crushed), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhi Ke) (three fen, bran-fried until slightly yellow and pith removed), Scutellariae Radix (Huang Qin) (half liang, crushed).
