[Millet and Wheat Category] Jingmi (Glutinous Rice) consumed with horse meat induces chronic diseases. Consumed with Xanthium (Cang'er), it causes sudden heart pain. (From *Shiliao*) Whenever new grain is first harvested, the elderly and those with weak spleens must absolutely avoid eating it. (From *Chuanjiabao*) Long-term consumption of Nuomi (Sticky Rice) makes the body soft and sinews lax, inducing wind and disturbing qi. If taken with alcohol, drunkenness becomes difficult to awaken from. (From *Tongyuan*) For those who habitually have phlegm-heat or wind diseases, and for those with spleen pathology unable to transport and transform, consuming Nuomi easily triggers disease and forms accumulations. (From *Congxin*) There are five types of Shumi (Millet). Long-term consumption generates irritability, heat, and dizziness, causing old diseases of the five zang organs to flare up and making one sleepy. It should not be eaten with white wine, Malva verticillata (Kuicai), or beef. (From *Tujing*) Eating Jimi (Proso Millet) induces thirty-six types of cold diseases. It should not be eaten with bottle gourd (Huzi). (From *Shijian*) Sumi (Foxtail Millet, called Xiaomi in the North): raw is hard to digest; cooked stagnates qi, leading to food retention and worm generation. (From *Yanyi*) Consumed with apricot kernels (Xingren), it causes vomiting and diarrhea. (From *Riyong*) Long-term consumption of Damai (Barley) causes excessive heart qi and internal heat, inducing scabies. (From *Yaolue*) Those with deficiency should eat little to prevent depletion of kidney water. (From *Chuanxin*) Wheat is rare in the south; if it flowers on frosty or snowy nights, its flour carries damp-heat, and eating it induces disease. (From *Shijian*) Wet noodles and roasted noodles are lifelong taboos for those with hemoptysis, hematemesis, or epistaxis. (From *Xuantong Yaoxingjie*)
Appendix: Advice to noodle shops against using ash water to prevent throat diseases Recently, people eat cut noodles without knowing that ash water is used to knead the dough. Currently, about 70-80% use coal. Coal ash mixes with charcoal ash, and those exchanging ashes cannot distinguish them, thus purchasing them. Sold to noodle shop owners, eating these noodles secretly exposes one to coal toxicity. Attacks may occur every ten years or every five years. Although not everyone will develop the disease, the speed of onset and survival depend on the depth of toxicity absorption. For those inhaling coal toxic qi, during the burning process, one can still consume radish brine or kelp to resolve the gu poison caused by coal toxicity. However, once the toxin enters the lungs and intestines, no medicine can save them. Recently, this has manifested as rotting throat rash diseases, truly a case of nine deaths and one life. I hereby publish this statement and attach an effective immortal prescription below. I urge benevolent gentlemen to separate coal ash in their kitchens initially, ensuring no mixing, and request advising noodle shops to exclusively use alkali water for kneading dough, avoiding coal ash misuse. This would be a great merit. I earnestly hope for widespread dissemination so that every household knows, perhaps reducing gu poison slightly and alleviating throat diseases gradually.
Appendix: Effective Immortal Prescription for Treating Rotting Throat Rash Purple Quartz Zi Shiyin (4 qian, resolves coal gu poison) Six Spirit Qu Liushenqu (3 qian, eliminates food accumulation from wheat) Dandelion Gongying (4 qian, resolves throat heat/toxicity) Apricot Kernel Mud Xingrenni (5 qian, eliminates phlegm-fire) Decoct in water. Three doses lead to recovery. Infants take half dose; pregnant women need not abstain.
