(Zhang Jingyue) Treats Yangming warm disease (Yangming Warm Disease), summerheat disease, and epidemic diseases, presenting with extreme restlessness, extreme thirst, exhaustion of body fluids, and Yin deficiency leading to inability to sweat.
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) (3-5 qian) Gan Ge (Rhizoma Puerariae Lobatae) (2-3 qian). With two cups of water, decoct to one cup, immerse in cold water to cool. Take slowly; sweating indicates resolution.
Treats internal sinking of plague macules and toxins. (Wu Youke stated: Plague pathogens remain in the blood level, causing stagnation and closure of interior Qi. If not purged, macules will not erupt; if they erupt, toxins are resolved externally. After purgation, if macules gradually appear, do not purge heavily again. If there is a purgation indication, give Chengqi Tang (Cathartic Decoction) sparingly and slowly. If heavily purged, Yuan Qi (Original Qi) is damaged, and macule toxins sink internally, which is critical; use Tuoli Jubang Tang (Support Interior and Raise Macules Decoction). If after purgation macule toxins hide, and symptoms such as grasping at clothes and picking at empty air appear with a faint pulse, add Renshen (Ginseng Root) to this formula; if supplementation allows eruption, death can be avoided.)
Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) (1 qian) Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) (0.5 fen) Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri) Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae) (0.7 fen) Chuanshanjia (Squama Manis) (2 qian). Decoct in water.
Treats plague toxic qi causing eruptive macules with pain and itching.
Niubangzi (Fructus Arctii) (stir-fried) Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae) (2 qian) Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae) (1 qian) Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) (0.8 fen) Xijiao (Cornu Rhinocerotis) (ground into juice). Take 3 qian per dose, decoct in water, add Xijiao juice.
(Zhang Jingyue) Treats plague and smallpox/rubella with heat in both exterior and interior. It can dissipate toxins and nourish Yin.
See the supplementary prescription from Shuxie Yin (Dispel Pathogens Decoction) in Volume XI, Infant Department.
(When pathogen is in the exterior, sweating is indicated; when in the upper jiao, vomiting is indicated; when in the middle and lower jiao, purgation is indicated. These are the three methods of sweating, vomiting, and purging. People today only know sweating and purging, while vomiting is completely abandoned and rarely known in the world. Thus I once said: Vomiting method combines the function of sweating, perhaps this is why.)
(Zhang Zhongjing) Treats sudden stroke due to phlegm confusion. Profuse salivary tide, mania and restlessness, unconsciousness, five types of epilepsy with phlegm obstruction. Food filling Taiyin, desire to vomit but unable to. Also treats various jaundices, acute jaundice. (Sudden yellowing, chest fullness, panting, life hanging by a thread is called acute jaundice. Or take this powder, or insufflate into nose, or add Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos).) Zhang Zhongjing said: The condition resembles Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) syndrome. Head does not hurt, neck is not stiff, cun pulse is slightly floating, epigastrium is痞 hard (stuffy and hard), Qi rushes up to the throat, unable to breathe. This is cold in the chest. Should induce vomiting, Gui Di San (Melon Stamen Powder) is suitable. Those who have lost blood or are deficient should not be given Gui Di San. (Yu Jiayan said: Cold refers to phlegm. When phlegm-fluid moves internally, the body must have sweat. Combined with fever and aversion to cold, it fully resembles wind-stroke. But head does not hurt, neck is not stiff, this is not external wind. It is internally stored phlegm obstructing the chest. Use Gui Di San to涌 out (urge out) it.) He also said: Patients with cold hands and feet, pulse suddenly tight, pathogen is knotted in the chest. Epigastrium is full and vexed, hungry but cannot eat, disease is in the chest, must induce vomiting, Gui Di San is suitable. (Cold hands and feet resemble deep heat and deep cold in Jueyin. Its pulse is suddenly tight, sometimes not tight, quite different. This shows phlegm knotting in the chest, hence fullness, vexation, and inability to eat; Gui Di for vomiting method is also suitable.)
Tian Guali (Fructus Cucumeris Trichosanthis) (stir-fried until yellow) Chi Xiaodou (Semina Phaseoli Angularis) in equal parts. Each separately pounded and sifted into powder, then mixed together. Take one qian bi (a spoonful measure), with Xiangchi (Folium Sojae Praeparatum) one he, hot water seven he. Boil, remove dregs, mix evenly, take warm in two doses. If vomiting occurs, stop subsequent doses. If probing vomiting continues, decoct Qiongcong (Scallion White) seven stems in water and take. If cannot take, if probing vomiting, phlegm and food in chest differ from deficiency vexation. Yue uses bitterness of Guali, Yong uses sourness of Chi Xiaodou. Vomit out tangible matter of upper jiao, then Wood Qi gets relaxed, Yang Qi can move, Earth Qi descends, then pulse, chest pain and heat can be removed. Old cold repeatedly vomited, already three times removed red.
