After the contraction of Cold Damage (Shanghan), if there is distressing pain in the bone and joints, it is due to insufficient body fluids and deficiency of blood vessels. The residual pathogenic factors lodge in the meridians, causing stagnation of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi between the bone and joints. Consequently, this leads to distressing pain in the bone and joints. Upon palpating the Cun, Guan, and Chi positions of the radial pulse, if the pulse is thin, slow, and choppy, this is the corresponding sign.
