Yong (carbuncle) is formed when cold pathogen invades the muscles, causing blood and qi to condense and accumulate. After a carbuncle ulcerates, there are favorable (Shun) and unfavorable (Ni) prognoses. The first unfavorable sign is when the sclera appears blue-black and the eyes become small; the second is vomiting after taking medicine; the third is severe pain accompanied by extreme thirst; the fourth is inability to move the shoulders and back; the fifth is hoarseness of voice and loss of facial luster. Apart from these five signs, all others are considered favorable. If the intestines and stomach are affected by cold, leading to diarrhea, the deficiency of the intestines and stomach allows cold to clash with stomach qi, resulting in vomiting and hiccups. If qi circulation is obstructed and further compromised by cold, it transforms into hiccups (Yue).
