The liver qi connects with the eyes. The eyes are the palace of the Liver. Furthermore, the accumulated qi of the five zang organs and six fu organs all ascend and pour into the eyes. However, the eyes have five wheels (Wulun), which internally correspond to the five zang organs.
The *Longmu Lun* (Treatise on Dragon and Wood) states: "Shensui pain external obstruction" (Painful external cataract caused by divine punishment/spiritual affliction). When this eye disease first occurs, there is no prior foundation or history; it suddenly erupts. The pain is like being pierced by an awl, and the eyelid skin feels as if being acupunctured. This illness is unbearable. One should first pray to the spirits, then take medicine to tonify and treat the zang-fu organs. Hook-cutting, moxibustion, and cauterization must not be used. Otherwise, one fears the generation of nebulae (corneal opacities). It is suitable to take Lingyangjiao Yinzi (Antelope Horn Decoction) and apply Qinpi Jian (Bark Decoction) drops for immediate effect.
The song says: Suddenly afflicted without prior foundation, pain like needle pricking brings unrest. Or feeling as if needles are approaching, praying to the spirits is not empty words. Once the pain settles, one must return to drinking decoctions.
Eye pain like needle pricking, external obstruction syndrome. When this eye disease first occurs, there is slight headache and dizziness. The ocular meridians are often tense. At night, there is a涩 (astringent/dry) painful sensation, tearing, and difficulty opening the eyes. It constantly feels like needle pricking. This is heart fire latent toxin, with hot qi congested in the diaphragm. Later, nebulae gradually form, obscuring vision and pulling together, causing mutual damage. For such symptoms, it is suitable to take Xiexin Tang (Gallbladder-Draining Decoction), Bugan San (Liver-Tonifying Powder), and combine with Ti wash (antimony wash) to induce bleeding. Acupuncture at Taiyang (Ex-HN5) point yields immediate effect.
The song says: Suddenly pain inside the eyeball like needle pricks, heat pain hides latent in the heart. Thus causing both eyes and meridians to become tense, when eyes are tense, pain is sharp. At the Taiyang point...
