All meridians and collaterals are connected to the eyes. The eyes are the mansion where blood gathers. Therefore, when a person lies down to sleep, blood returns to the liver. When the liver receives blood, vision is enabled. If Qi and blood are harmonious, they ascend to assist visual power, allowing one to see clearly while resting. If there is heat in the Liver, causing blood vessels to be congested and dry, body fluids cannot nourish and moisten the eyes. Thus, the eyes feel dry, painful, and gritty. Additionally, internal sorrow triggers the opening of fluid pathways, leading to profuse weeping. When tears are depleted, dryness ensues; this dryness causing grittiness and pain is also a specific syndrome.
