[Supplementary Discussion]
When Liver Qi has heat, it rushes upward to the eyelids, causing sudden swelling of the eyelid muscles. If Wind-Cold pathogenic factors invade, they cause stagnation and coagulation that does not dissipate. In severe cases, the swelling enlarges, resembling a plum or prune pit; thus, it is termed "Wind-Toxin."
The *Bing Yuan* (Source of Diseases) states: The eyes are the external manifestation of the Liver. When Liver deficiency is insufficient, it is disturbed by Cold-Heat pathogenic factors, causing Qi to rush upward to the eyes. Externally encountering Wind-Cold strikes, Cold and Heat contend with each other, leading to nodular swelling of the eyelid muscles. Some swell like apricot pits, others like sour jujubes due to Wind onset; hence, it is called "Wind Swelling."
