Generally, exposure to wind and dew leads to the onset of chills and fever. Initially, the pathogen affects the couli (the interstices of the skin and hair follicles). When the couli are open, one feels a sudden chill; when they are closed, heat ensues accompanied by chest stuffiness. If wind pathogen enters the Stomach Meridian, cold causes food retention and vomiting.
