To treat the recovery after the shedding of smallpox in children, burn the human dental calculus (Ren Chi Gou) into powder, and swallow it mixed with hot wine. It can promote the expulsion of toxins to cure smallpox (Wandou Chuang), and is also capable of expelling worm toxins and evil qi. Grind human dental calculus together with black lice into a paste; applying this to arrowhead wounds or ruptured carbuncles can facilitate healing. Collect saliva at dawn; applying it to soft boils can reduce swelling and inflammation, with verified efficacy. Furthermore, saliva can brighten the eyes, remove nebulae, reduce swelling, detoxify, and ward off evil.
Human fingernails have a sweet and salty taste, and are non-toxic. The nails of pregnant women, when taken as fine powder and applied to the eyes, can remove nebulae; the nails of ordinary people can induce the delivery of the placenta. They promote urination, treat hematuria, and regulate Yin-Yang exchange disease. They also stop epistaxis; scraping them finely and applying them brings immediate cessation.
Human feces have a bitter taste and cold nature. For carbuncles causing the mouth to remain open, applying fresh feces for one day causes the root of the lesion to rot and fall off; for heat toxins from typhoid fever, drinking the clarified water from dry feces (burned until carbonized and ground) clears the heat toxin from the affected area. Ancient traditions recommend keeping fecal liquor (Fen Qing) on hand. The preparation method is as follows, though effects may not be immediate. Select feces from a latrine that are free from impurities; the best time is during the deep winter months. Place a bamboo basket over a basin, line the basket with palm fiber cloth. Add several layers of thick paper, then five inches of new soil. Pour feces onto the soil so that the juice drips through into the basin. Store in a new urn, cover with a coarse bowl, seal tightly with salt mud, and bury deep underground. When retrieved, it resembles clear spring water, odorless upon opening. It is particularly effective for treating epidemic fevers caused by heavenly pathogens, and excellent for treating yin deficiency with dry heat. It can dispel all kinds of sores and resolve all toxins. (Another method: Cut a section of light bamboo, remove the green skin, soak it in feces, and drink the seeping juice.) There is also "Di Qing" (Earth Liquid), prepared within one shichen (two hours). Choose clean yellow earth in a shady place. Dig a small pit five or six inches deep, add two or three spoons of fecal powder (dry feces ground fine). Draw fresh water, stir until turbid (similar to making Di Jiang). Wait for it to clarify briefly before drinking; do not consume excessively, as it also resolves severe heat and thirst. Ren Zhong Huang has a cold nature and is often added to formulas by Zhu Danxi. Cut bamboo, removing the green skin, leaving nodes at both ends. Open a hole at the top, fill it completely with slices of licorice root; reseal the hole and fix it with tung oil putty. Throw it into a latrine on the Start of Winter, retrieve it before the Start of Spring. Stand it in a ventilated place, break it open after ten days to half a month. Take out the licorice root, dry it in the sun, and use it to treat epidemic toxins. (Another method: In winter, take a section of bamboo, scrape off the green skin. Leave one node at the bottom, clear the other nodes, insert a large piece of licorice root inside, and plug the top with wood. Insert the end with the node into feces, retrieve after one month, dry in the sun; longer soaking yields better results.) If fresh infant feces can be obtained, they can remove ulcerative polyps. (They can also remove facial marks/texts.) Scoop up fly larvae, place them in a container, use a straw bundle to guide the larvae upward, transfer them to another container, thereby removing all impurities. Inject dissected toad into them, and they become fat in two days.) Expose to strong sunlight to bake, cover tightly to kill. Dry with gentle fire, grind fine for storage. Mix with Atractylodis Rhizoma (Baizhu) to make a powder, administer with decoction; it is miraculous for treating pediatric malnutrition and abdominal distension. Ascarids may also exit via feces due to its cold nature; wash large ones, cut them, and drip the juice. For chronic red eyes, instilling the juice brings immediate cure. The classics state: Salt can dissolve ascarids, with efficacy similar to earthworms.
