Ziyin Dihuang Wan (Yin-Nourishing Rehmannia Pill) from Dongyuan treats dilated pupils, discoloration of the iris (huangjing), blurred vision, or sudden perception of abnormal visual phenomena.
Ingredients: Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) 1 liang, Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) 1.5 liang, Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) 8 qian, Tianmendong (Asparagi Rhizoma), Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata), Zhiqiao (Aurantii Fructus) (3 qian each), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) (3 qian each), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 0.5 liang, Dangguishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) 0.5 liang (stir-fried with wine).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of mung beans. Take 100 pills per dose, administered with warm clear tea, twice daily. Avoid spicy and raw/cold foods.
Note: These two formulas belong to the Foot Shaoyin Kidney channel. The former primarily treats the Right Kidney, while this one primarily treats the Left Kidney; hence the difference in medication.
Buyang Tang (Yang-Supplementing Decoction) treats conditions where Yang cannot overcome Yin, i.e., Yin excess and Yang deficiency, leading to obstruction of the nine orifices. White nebulas appear on the cornea (qingbai yi), and depression occurs in the Foot Taiyang Bladder and Foot Shaoyin Kidney channels, preventing Qi from the Foot Jueyin Liver channel from ascending to the eyes, thus causing internal obstruction by green-white nebulas. Treatment should focus on the deep levels of the Taiyang and Shaoyin channels to cover and ascend the Yang Qi of the Liver, allowing it to rush upward. This is a method of first tonifying Yang, then clearing Fire from the Foot Jueyin Liver channel that is latent within Yang at the biao (superficial/head) region of the Foot Taiyang and Taiyin channels. This is the secondary treatment step. The *Neijing* states: "When Yin is excess and Yang is deficient, one should first tonify Yang, then drain Yin." This is correct. Take Buyang Tang every morning before dawn, and Yiyin Wan (Yin-Nourishing Pill) before sleep. Do not take these if there are changes in weather or irregular diet.
Ingredients: Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1 liang each), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (0.5 liang each), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Baifuling (Poria), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) stir-fried (3 qian each), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) 3 liang, Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (0.5 liang each), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) 1 qian, Dangguishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) prepared with wine (3 qian).
Grind the above into coarse powder. Take 0.5 liang per dose, decoct in water, and take on an empty stomach.
Chonghe Yangwei Tang (Harmonizing and Stomach-Nourishing Decoction) treats internal cataracts caused by weakness of Spleen and Stomach Yuan Qi, hyperactivity of Heart Fire and Sanjiao, irregular diet, physical overexertion, and lack of mental rest. Administration yields miraculous effects.
