Hua Fen (Trichosanthis Radix) Shi Jue Ming (Haliotidis Concha) Cao Jue Ming (Cassiae Semen, stir-fried) Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, stir-fried with wine) Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex, each 8 fen)
Hong Hua (Carthami Flos, washed with wine) Su Mu (Sappan Lignum, washed with wine, each 5 fen) Gan Ju (Chrysanthemi Flos, 1.2 qian) Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus, 7 fen)
Add two zhong of water, decoct until eight fen remains, use Deng Xin Cao (Junci Medullia) as a guiding herb, take hot after meals.
When the sclera (white part of the eye) turns completely black, it indicates blood stasis (Xue Kui). When the medicinal power takes effect, the patient may experience slight stupor or dullness, after which they will recover. It is suitable to use:
Wu Ling Zhi (Trogopteri Dung, 3 qian)
Grind into powder, mix and take with hot yellow wine.
For phlegm in the chest and diaphragm causing wheezing with sound, and dim vision in both eyes, it is suitable to use:
(Not for elderly patients with weak constitution)
Xi Cha (Fine Tea, 1.5 liang) Shan Zha (Crataegi Fructus) Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) Guang Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, each 5 qian) Lao Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 1 qian)
Add two zhong of water, decoct until eight fen remains, take warm. After a short while, phlegm and saliva will be vomited; severe cases may vomit three to four bowls, mild cases one to two bowls. After vomiting is complete, stop it with millet soup. After five to seven days, when phlegm-heat is cleared, vision will naturally become clear. If phlegm is not fully expelled, wait a few days and take again.
If the eyes remain red for a long time after waking up, this is due to blood heat. Use half a jin of Sheng Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), crush and extract juice, soak half a sheng of Jing Mi (Oryza Sativa Germen) rice. Soak and sun-dry three times. Cook a bowl of porridge every morning and eat it; recovery will follow immediately.
For phlegm above the diaphragm causing red and dim eyes, use one liang of Ge Fen (Concha Meretricis Preparata) and one liang of Qing Dai (Indicum), grind into powder, and make honey pills the size of a longan pit. Hold one pill in the mouth to dissolve slowly; when phlegm transforms into water and is discharged, vision will naturally clear. If phlegm is not cleared and fire is not descended, opacities (Yi) will form over time, resulting in external obstructions (Wai Zhang). All eye diseases arise from phlegm, and phlegm arises from fire.
For eye disease accompanied by spermatorrhea, use the full ingredients of Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia), add Mu Li (Ostrea Concha) calcined until red, quenched with water, ground into powder, and dried. One dose uses three liang.
After Shang Han (Cold Damage), residual pathogens remain undissipated, moving upward to the orifices, causing itching and dryness in both eyes, redness and swelling, formation of opacities, photophobia, and headache. It is suitable to use:
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) Bai Fu Ling (Poria, 6 fen each) Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix)
