When the eye is first afflicted, it is suddenly and accidentally struck or bumped by an object. The eyelids and eyeball (Qingzhu) are painful, with severe swelling that makes it difficult to open the eyes. It is advisable to first use a lancet to prick and release blood, then apply crushed Rehmanniae Radix (Dihuang) wrapped in cotton cloth to seal over the eye. Subsequently, it is appropriate to administer Chufeng San (Wind-Dispersing Powder) and Yare Yinzi (Heat-Suppressing Decoction).
Poem:
Unjustly suffering from a broken injury due to collision,
The unbearable pain is truly bizarre and distressing.
The pupil is shaken and becomes completely turbid and dim,
Evil blood still flows within the eye socket.
To treat this, one need only lance the eyelid to release blood,
Wrap in Rehmanniae Radix and cotton, sealing it tightly.
Drink the cooling decoction that disperses wind and suppresses heat,
To prevent other wind pathogens from causing disaster.
Chufeng San (Wind-Dispersing Powder)
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, two liang), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen, half a liang each), Gaoben (Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix, half a liang each), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, half a liang each), Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, half a liang each), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus, half a liang each), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, half a liang each).
Grind and sieve these into powder. Take one qian seven fen with aged rice water on an empty stomach.
Yare Yinzi (Heat-Suppressing Decoction)
Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Fuling (Poria), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Heishen (Scrophulariae Radix), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, each one and a half liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, one liang).
Grind into powder. Use one cup of water and one qian of powder, boil down to half a cup. Strain and take warm after meals.
When the eye is first afflicted, it is injured by being struck or pierced by an object. If treatment is incomplete, residual stasis and accumulated blood remain within the eyelids, leading to the formation of nebula (Yi). For such conditions, hook-cutting, moxibustion, and cauterization are contraindicated. One must strictly observe rest and recuperation. Indulgence in sexual activity and anger are strictly forbidden. It is appropriate to administer Renshen Tang (Ginseng Decoction) and Tuire Chongweizi San (Heat-Reducing Leonurus Seed Powder).
Poem:
If there is a nebula rooted from collision or piercing,
And treatment is incomplete leaving residual traces,
Waiting for pain to subside before treating the wound is futile;
I advise you to rest and recuperate, avoiding lust and anger.
When feeling heat, you must use medicine to suppress it,
Do not allow wind-heat pathogens to invade further.
If one thinks this nebula can be removed by hooking,
Know that you are not a person who understands medicine.
