Pulverize the ingredients into a fine powder, and mix with refined honey to make pills the size of a bullet. Take one pill each time, chewing it down with a decoction of Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong, 麦门冬) from which the heart has been removed. It is also used to treat hemoptysis due to lung damage, accompanied by progressive fatigue, emaciation, difficulty walking, wheezing and coughing with phlegm, poor appetite, or alternating chills and fever, and scanty, painful urination. In such cases, add Semen Plantaginis (Cheqianzi, 车前子), two qian half per dose. Take one pill each time, chewing it down with a decoction of Mulberry Twig (Sangzhi, 桑枝). It may be taken six to seven times a day. The Mulberry Twig should be chopped, stir-fried until fragrant. For each dose, use three cups of water, decoct until one cup remains, strain, and then add the other medicines.
[Phthisis and Bone-Steaming Fever]
The treatments for various syndromes of Five Exhaustions (Wulao, 五劳), Six Extremes (Liují, 六极), and Seven Injuries (Qishang, 七伤) have been detailed in the section on Deficiency Consumption in miscellaneous diseases; thus, they are not repeated here. Women suffering from this condition often do so because of menstruation, pregnancy, or childbirth, or due to irregularities in diet and lifestyle, or severe emotional trauma damaging the Liver and Spleen. It may also result from lack of proper care or excessive use of purgative methods. The treatment differs slightly from that for men. Therefore, ancient and modern secret formulas specifically for women are collected here. To explore their origins further, one must consult those texts.
[Nourishing Deficiency]
Heche Wan (Placenta Pill), an effective formula for treating phthisis: Treats laborious cough, all types of phthisis, deficiency consumption, and bone-steaming fevers.
Human Placenta (Heche, 河车): One piece (preferably from a newborn male infant). Wash thoroughly in running water to remove blood, place in a porcelain vessel, and steam over boiling water until soft before incorporating into the medicine.
Poria Cocos (Fuling, 茯苓): Half liang.
Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参): One liang.
Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao, 山药): Two liang.
Pulverize the above ingredients into a fine powder, mix with the juice of the Human Placenta, add wheat paste, and form pills the size of Sophora seeds (Wutongzi, 梧桐子). Coat with a small amount of Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香) powder. Take thirty to fifty pills each time, swallowed with rice drink, warm wine, or salted water, on an empty stomach. For severe cough, take with Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi, 五味子) decoction.
Shiquan Dabu Tang (Decoction for Ten Thousand Complete Great Tonification) (See Deficiency Consumption in Miscellaneous Diseases): Treats deficiency heat of Qi and Blood. Add Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu, 柴胡), Cortex Lycii (Digupi, 地骨皮), and Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (Qinjiao, 秦艽).
[Nourishing Deficiency, Reducing Heat, and Moistening Dryness]
Huangqi Wan (Astragalus Pill) (from *Shenghui Fang*): Treats bone-steaming irritability and heat in women, emaciation and pain in the four limbs, dry mouth, mental restlessness, and insomnia.

Ziziphi Spinosae Semen (Suanzaoren, 酸枣仁), stir-fried
Prunus Triandra Seed (Yuziren, 郁李仁)
Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Xingren, 杏仁), skin and tip removed, non-double kernels, stir-fried with bran until yellow
Lycii Fructus (Gouqizi, 枸杞子)
Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参), rhizome removed

Slowly boil into a paste, then add the following herbs:
Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu, 北柴胡) (three liang)
Costi Rhizoma (Muxiang, 木香)

Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (Qinjiao, 秦艽)
Bupleuri Radix (Kujie, 苦梗 - note: likely Angelicae Dahuricae Radix or similar contextually, but literal translation kept as Kujie/Bupleuri root variant if distinct, usually implies Peucedani Radix or Angelicae Dahuricae Radix in some contexts, here translated as Angelicae Dahuricae Radix/Kujie based on standard lists where Kujie might refer to specific processing or synonym, strictly adhering to text 'Kujie') -> *Correction*: Kujie usually refers to Peucedani Radix (Qianhu) or Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi) in older texts, but often synonymous with Chuanxiong or others. Given WHO standards, if ambiguous, keep Pinyin or standard equivalent. Here 'Kujie' is likely a typo or variant for 'Jiegeng' (Platycodon) or 'Qianhu'. However, looking at common formulas, it is often Platycodon. Let's assume Platycodon Root (Jiegeng, 桔梗) or similar. Actually, 'Kujie' is not a standard modern name. It might be 'Kujie' = 'Jiegeng' (Platycodon). I will use Platycodon Root (Jiegeng, 桔梗) as it fits the respiratory/phthisis context, or stick to literal if unsure. Wait, 'Kujie' (苦梗) is an old name for Platycodon Root (Jiegeng, 桔梗). So: Platycodon Root (Jiegeng, 桔梗).
Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香), ground (half liang)
Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Shudihuang, 熟地黄), washed, dried, steamed with wine (four liang)
Pulverize the above ingredients into a fine powder, mix with the previous paste to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take twenty to thirty pills after meals with Licorice Decoction.

When preparing and decocting medicines, avoid being seen by any men or women who are not involved, as well as cats, dogs, chickens, and other livestock. Do not let the patient know the taste of the medicine for it to be effective.
[Blood-Wind Consumption]
[General Discussion] The syndrome of Blood-Wind Consumption in women arises from inherent deficiency of Qi and Blood, irregular menstruation, external wind pathogen invasion, and internal retention of cold pathogens. This causes disharmony of Yin and Yang and stagnation and obstruction of the meridians, leading to firm abdominal pain, soreness and pain in the four limbs, intermittent or irregular menstruation, and a sallow, emaciated complexion. Additionally, if proper care is not taken within one hundred days postpartum, visceral deficiency and exhaustion of the hundred vessels occur, resulting in consumption. If not cured for a long time, it transforms into alternating chills and fever with regular intervals, reduced appetite, and emaciated skin and muscles. When menstruation is due, dizziness and vertigo, stiffness and tension in the chest and back, limb pain, bodily heat and irritation, heavy legs, and facial edema may occur, or menstruation may stop. Hence it is called Blood-Wind Consumption Qi.
[Xue Ji's Commentary] Dongyuan said: Unregulated emotions, irregular daily routine, and any form of overexertion damage Qi. When Qi declines, Fire flares up. Flaring Fire attacks the Spleen Earth. Since the Spleen governs the four limbs, this leads to fatigue, heat, reluctance to speak, panting and fatigue upon movement, surface heat, spontaneous sweating, and mental restlessness. At the onset of illness, one should sit quietly, nurture Qi, use Sweet-Cold herbs to drain Heat, use Sour herbs to consolidate scattered Qi, and use Sweet-Warm herbs to tonify Middle Qi. The Classics state: For consumption...
