Deafness is caused by wind-cold injuring the Kidney. The Kidney Qi connects with the ears; when labor and overstrain injure the Kidney Qi, wind-cold enters as an pathogenic factor. The pathogen contends with the healthy Qi, causing the Qi of the meridians to become obstructed.
Deafness accompanied by local swelling occurs because wind-pathogen contends with the Kidney Qi. Since the Kidney Qi connects with the ears, the pathogen attacks its meridians, causing Qi and Blood to become congested and stagnant, unable to disperse and emerge, thus forming a knot or swelling.
Redness of the eyes results from wind-cold lodging in the interstices of the eye region, contending with Qi and Blood, while tears are disturbed by it; if accompanied by heat, this causes redness of the eyes.
Wind-induced vertigo accompanied by nasal congestion occurs when wind-pathogen invades the Zang-Fu organs and enters the brain. The essence-Qi of the Five Zang and Six Fu organs all ascend to the eyes, and Blood and Qi are jointly associated with the brain. When the body is deficient, wind-pathogen enters the brain, pulling on the visual system (Muxi), making it tense, thus causing dizziness. Furthermore, the Qi of the Zang-Fu organs originates from the Lung; the Lung governs Qi, and its external manifestation is reflected in the nose. After wind-pathogen enters the brain, it also contends with Lung Qi, resulting in vertigo and nasal congestion.
Epistaxis (Nosebleed) is caused by the disturbance and injury of Qi and Blood. All Five Zang organs receive Qi and Blood; when Qi and Blood are harmonious, they circulate through the meridians without stagnation or dispersion. If labor and strain cause damage and generate internal heat, causing Qi to reverse and overflow into the nose, epistaxis occurs.
Dark spots on the face (Facial Melasma/Dark Patches) may arise from phlegm-fluid retention within the Zang-Fu organs or from wind-pathogen affecting the skin. Both conditions lead to disharmony of Qi and Blood, resulting in the formation of dark patches. The blood of the Five Zang, Six Fu organs, and the Twelve Meridians all ascend to the face. The movement of Blood nourishes both the interior and exterior. If phlegm-fluid soaks the Zang organs, or if wind affects the Couli (pores/skin interstices), causing Qi and Blood to become disharmonious—either stagnant or turbid—and unable to nourish the skin, dark spots develop. If caused by wind affecting the skin, external treatment will cure it; if caused by fluid retention in the Zang-Fu organs, internal treatment is required for recovery.
Black nevi on the face (Facial Black Moles) are generated by wind-pathogen contending with Qi and Blood, leading to transformational changes. When a person's Qi and Blood are abundant, the skin is moist and lustrous. If there is deficiency and damage, blemishes and spots appear. Black moles are formed by wind-pathogen altering the state of Qi and Blood. Those present since birth cannot be treated with medicine.
Snake-skin disease (Ophiasis/Scaly Skin Condition) is caused by wind-pathogen lodging in the Couli. When the Couli are affected by wind, they become closed and dense, causing Qi and Blood to become stagnant and turbid, unable to nourish and moisten the skin, leading to mottled and peeling skin. Its appearance resembles snake scales; the world calls it "Snake Body," also referred to as "Snake Skin."
