其不得卧而息有音者，是阳明之逆。足三阳者下行，今逆而上行，故息有音。阳明者，

The term "rebellious Qi" (Ni Qi, rebellious Qi) refers to the condition where anger causes Qi to rebel; in severe cases, it leads to vomiting blood and upward rebellion of Qi during eating.
There are several manifestations of rebellious Qi: some patients cannot lie down and have noisy breathing; some have normal daily activities but noisy breathing; some can lie down but wheeze when walking; some cannot lie down or walk yet wheeze; and some cannot lie down and wheeze as soon as they lie down. All these conditions have specific origins.
Those who cannot lie down and have noisy breathing suffer from rebellion of the Yangming channel. The three Yang channels of the foot normally descend; now they rebel and ascend, causing noisy breathing. The Yangming channel belongs to the Stomach meridian; the Stomach is the sea of the six Fu organs, and its Qi also descends. When Yangming Qi rebels, it cannot follow its proper pathway, thus preventing sleep. This is what is meant by "when the Stomach is disharmonious, sleep is uneasy."
Those whose daily activities remain normal but have noisy breathing suffer from rebellion of the collateral vessels of the Lung. The Qi of the collateral vessels cannot move up and down with the main meridians, so it stagnates in the meridians and does not circulate. Therefore, patients with this collateral vessel disease have normal daily activities but noisy breathing.
Those who cannot lie down and wheeze upon lying down are affected by Water Qi invading the body. Water flows following the Jin-Ye (body fluids); the Kidney is the Water organ and governs Jin-Ye. Dysfunction in Jin-Ye management leads to wheezing when supine.
Upon pulse diagnosis, an excessive pulse at the Duzhong (Fuyang) point indicates rebellious Qi and back pain with a warm sensation. A hidden pulse at the Cunkou (Radial) point indicates rebellious Qi in the chest. A thin pulse at the Guanshi (Cun position) indicates rebellious Qi, abdominal pain, and distension. For these conditions, treatments involving decoctions, moxibustion/heat application, acupuncture, and stone therapy have separate specific formulas. Methods for nourishing, supplementing, and guiding Qi are attached below.
The *Yangsheng Fang* (Prescriptions for Nourishing Life) · *Daoyin Fa* (Guiding and Pulling Methods) states: Lie on your back, hook the right big toe with the left heel, inhale through the nose, exert yourself to the limit, perform seven breath cycles, which eliminates masses and rebellious Qi.
Jue (Cold Extremities/Rebellion) means rebellion. It refers to Yin Qi attacking Yang Qi. Yin Qi resides in the lower part, while Yang Qi resides in the upper part. When Yang is deficient, Yin becomes relatively full; when full, Yin is excessive. Excessive Yin attacks the upper Yang region, causing the Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) to rebel and lose its normal rhythm. Consequently, cold arises from the back, and the hands and feet become cold and reversed due to excess Yin.
This condition arises from insufficiency of Zang organ Qi. The Lung governs Qi and connects with respiration. Insufficiency of Zang Qi results in weak respiration and shortness of breath. Chest pain accompanied by shortness of breath indicates water retention within the Zang organs. Water is Yin Qi; when Yin Qi stays inside, it causes shortness of breath.
Diagnosing the Right Hand Cunkou pulse: If Yin is solid (excess), it indicates Lung excess. Suffering from shortness of breath and fullness/pounding in the chest that radiates to the shoulders, with a soft (Ru) pulse coming, indicates deficiency-type shortness of breath. If the Left Hand Guanshi pulse shows both Yin and Yang as deficient, it indicates deficiency of the Foot Jueyin Liver and Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder channels. The disease manifests as suffering from shortness of breath and inability to speak. If the Right Hand Guanshi pulse shows both Yin and Yang as deficient, it indicates deficiency of the Foot Taiyin Spleen and Foot Yangming Stomach channels. The disease manifests as suffering from a hollow feeling in the stomach, shortness of breath insufficient for respiration, and four extremities cold/reversed. A weak pulse indicates shortness of breath and cold skin. A small pulse also indicates shortness of breath.
