Note: This formula is a specific remedy for winter-warmth causing cough, dry throat, phlegm accumulation, fever, and spontaneous diarrhea. Even in cases of spring warmth due to latent qi manifesting with wind-pathogen invasion, this formula remains applicable. Its brilliance lies in the combination of Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), which has the effect of resolving the mutual binding of cold and heat. If the disease condition is mild, remove Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Du Huo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), and Xingren (Apricot Seed), adding Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) and Xiangchi (Fermented Soybean) suffices. If heat accumulation is severe and requires urgent venting, Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) are essential; this depends on the physician's judgment at the bedside.

Coat with 1 liang of Jiang Banxia powder (Ginger-processed Pinelliae Rhizoma powder). Take 1 qian or 1.5 qian per dose, twice daily. This is the premier prescription for treating jaundice.

First, decoct Xian Gua Danzhuru (Freshly-scraped Light Bamboo Shavings, 5 qian), Chao Xiang Xian Pipaye (Stir-fried Fresh Loquat Leaf, 1 liang) in well water and river water (one bowl each) until reduced to one bowl. Divide into two doses. Do not drink much tea after taking the medicine, as excessive tea drinking may cause vomiting of the medicine, preventing its efficacy. Endure this carefully.
Note: Summer-autumn cholera often arises from dampness suppressing heat combined with overeating, or exposure to foul odors. This formula transforms stagnation and unblocks epigastric fullness to stop vomiting, and promotes urination to stop diarrhea, representing the standard treatment for summer-autumn hot cholera. The key lies in adjusting the proportions of Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Wu Zhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) according to the severity of damp-heat. For symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, muscle cramps, epigastric pain, borborygmus, irritability, thirst, vomiting of roundworms, sunken eyes, loss of voice, cold limbs, purple nails, and hidden or faint pulse, use this decoction to harmonize yin and yang, treat vomiting and diarrhea, and it will be effective.
Additional Modifications: If the tongue is red indicating heat in the Ying (Nutrient) level, add Guang Yujin (Curcumae Radix, 3 qian) and Sudan Shen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix, 3 qian), remove Zhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma). If heat closure causes coma and irritability, add Xingjun San (Military March Powder, 2 fen) and Xian Shichangpu Juice (Fresh Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma Juice, 4 spoons). If rebellious Qi causes hiccups, add Mu Dingxiang (Mother Clove Bud, 5 fen) and Shidi (Persimmon Calyx, 30 pieces). If epigastric and abdominal pain is severe, add Chao Yanhusuo (Stir-fried Corydalis Rhizoma, 1.5 qian) and Zijian Pian (Purple Shell Tablet, 4 fen). If muscle cramps are severe, add Jiuchao Mugua (Wine-stir-fried Papaya, 1.5 qian) and Sheng Yiren (Raw Coicis Semen, 6 qian); remove Zhuru (Bamboo Shavings) and Pipaye (Loquat Leaf) from the original formula, and use Sigualuo (Luffa Sponge Fiber) and Kuangjin Cao (Muscle-relaxing Herb, 1 liang each) decocted in water to replace the cooking water. If diarrhea stops but vomiting persists for days, add Juanhua wrapped in silk (Inulae Flos, 3 qian) and Daizheshi (Hematitum, 4 qian); remove Er Ling (two Polypori species), Huashi (Talcum), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Cheqian (Plantaginis Seed), and Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) from the original formula. If thirst and irritability are severe, add Sheng Shigao (Raw Gypsum Fibrosum, 6 qian) and Xiguazhi (Watermelon Juice, one ladle); remove Zhuyu (Evodiae Fructus), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Huoxiang (Pogostemonis Herba), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Er Ling (two Polypori species), Huashi (Talcum), and Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) from the original formula. If vomiting of roundworms is frequent, add Wumei Rou (Mume Seed Flesh, 5 fen), Hulian (Picrorhizae Rhizoma, 6 fen), and Chao Chuanjiao (Stir-fried Sichuan Pepper, 2 fen).
Jiangfan Wan (Vermilion Alum Pill): Zaofan (Alum Stone, 5 qian, wrapped in flour and fired until red), Du Cangzhu (Dried Atractylodis Rhizoma, 5 qian), Zhen Chuanpo (True Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 8 qian), Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 6 qian), Chao Jiao Gancao (Stir-fried Burnt Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 3 qian). Make small pills using boiled red date flesh. Coat with 1 liang of Jiang Banxia powder (Ginger-processed Pinelliae Rhizoma powder). Take 1.5 qian or 2 qian per dose, twice daily, with light ginger soup.
Can Shi Tang (Silkworm Faeces Decoction): Wan Can Sha (Late Silkworm Faeces, 5 qian), Sheng Yiren (Raw Coicis Semen, 4 qian), Dadou Juan (Soybean Sprout, 4 qian), Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla, 1 qian), Chen Mugua (Aged Papaya, 3 qian), Xian Lu Xia (Immature Banana Fruit, 1 qian), Jiao Shanzhi (Scorched Gardeniae Fructus, 1.5 qian), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 qian), Wu Zhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, 3 fen stir-fried with Xiao Chuanlian [Small Coptidis Rhizoma, 2 qian]). Decoct in Dijiang (Earth Slurry) or Yinyangshui (Yin-Yang Water), take slowly when slightly cool.
Note: The dosages strictly follow the original formula; it specifically treats cholera with muscle cramps, cold limbs, abdominal pain, thirst, irritability, sunken eyes, and hidden pulse, which are acute epidemic conditions caused by damp obstruction and heat depression.
