(As stated in *Weisheng Baojian*)
If one desires to cure diseases, there is no method superior to acupuncture. Skillfully manipulating the divine mechanism of needle insertion, its efficacy lies in profoundly understanding the sage's medical principles. Externally utilizing bian stones and needles can eliminate pathogenic factors and support healthy qi; internally containing the principles of water and fire, it is adept at restoring yang and reversing yin deviations.
Generally speaking, collaterals branch out differently, and meridians intersect and integrate. Some are like ditches and ponds, diverging into various paths; others are like mountains, seas, hills, and valleys, with gaps connecting them. The origins of these lineages are difficult to fathom, yet they have a unified framework. The principles are complex and obscure; without knowing the efficacy of tonification and sedation techniques, the methods may be swift but unclear. Only through the application of following and opposing (Ying-Sui) principles can they be effectively utilized.
For instance, for difficulty in walking, Taichong (LR3) is most miraculous; Renzhong (GV26) relieves stiffness and pain in the spine; Shenmen (HT7) removes mental dullness and dementia. When wind pathogens injure the neck causing stiffness, one should initially seek Fengfu (GV16); for dizziness and blurred vision, one should look for Fengchi (GB20). For ear blockage and hearing loss, Tinghui (GB2) must be used; for eye pain, Hegu (LI4) is combined for treatment. For chest stagnation and jaundice, Ququan (KI1) can provide relief; for brain dizziness and red eyes, draining Zanzhu (BL2) is more suitable. For spasms in both elbows, Quchi (LI11) relies on to smooth them out; for limb flaccidity and lethargy, Zhaohai (KI6) depends on to eliminate them. For toothache, Lüxi (an extra point, also known as Taixi KI3) is capable of treatment; for head and neck stiffness, Chengjiang (CV24) can ensure safety; Taibai (SP3) guides Qi Chong (ST30) [Spleen belongs to true Earth, generating Lung Metal]; Yinlingquan (SP9) opens the water pathways [Yinlingquan belongs to true Water, nourishing all things]. For abdominal distension and bloating, seizing Neiting (ST44) should not be delayed; for muscle cramps and pain, draining Chengshan (BL57) should be done early.
Generally, for ankle pain, Kunlun (BL60) can heal; for thigh and knee pain, Yinshi (ST32) can treat. For epilepsy and mania, Houxi (SI3) relies on for therapy; for malaria with chills and fever, Jianshi (PC5) supports. Qimen (LR14) needling treats chest fullness and blood distension, leading to recovery; Laogong (PC8) retreats stomach reversal and heart pain without doubt.
Examining Dadun (LR1), it treats hernias causing unilateral descent, as noted by Wang Gong; Zusanli (ST36) overcomes emaciation from five labors, as spoken of by Hua Tuo; Wan Gu (SI4) dispels jaundice; Ran Gu (KI2) drains kidney fire; Xingjian (LR2) treats knee swelling and eye diseases; Chi Ze (LU5) removes elbow pain, tendon tightness, and blurred vision; Er Jian (LI2) is sought for nasal obstruction and loss of smell; Ying Xiang (LI20) can guide unblocking; Jian Jing (GB21) removes the inability of both arms to bear weight; Si Zhu Kong (SJ23) treats unbearable headaches; Lie Que (LU7) is capable of treating cough with cold phlegm; Lin Qi (BL1) is particularly accurate for eye discharge and cold tears; Huagu (an extra point beside Liangqiu ST34) eliminates residual leg pain [Note: Huagu two points are three cun above Weizhong BL40 in the Spleen Pivot, error in Yang's annotation]; Shenshu (BL23) drains away lower back pain. Yue Ren (Bian Que) treated corpse-like fainting at Weihui (likely referring to a combination or specific technique involving Dimao GV14 or similar, text cites *Biao You Fu*), reviving instantly upon needle insertion; Wen Bo sedated dead fetus at Yinjiao (CV7), resulting in expulsion upon needle insertion [Song Dynasty Xu Wenbo treated a critical labor case where the fetus died in the womb, needling the intersection of the three foot yin meridians and Taichong LR3 with effect].
The sages observe numbness and pain, distinguishing between excess and deficiency. Excess enters from the exterior; deficiency emerges from the interior. Therefore, tonifying the mother organ supplements insufficiency, while reducing the child organ balances surplus. Observing the twenty-seven meridians, each is clearly distinguished; according to four hundred and forty disease manifestations, each is removed. Thus, premature death is prevented, bringing people to an age of longevity. The subtle principles are judged, manifesting the ancient classics.
It is also heard that for heart and chest diseases, seek Taoling (PC7) behind the palm; for shoulder and back pain, blame Zusanli (ST36) before the elbow; for cold bi syndrome and kidney failure, take the Earth point of the Foot Yangming Meridian (Zusanli ST36); for periumbilical abdominal pain, drain the Water point of the Foot Shaoyin Meridian (Yingu KI10); for pain in the interscapular region radiating to the heart posterior, needle Zhongzhu (TE3) for immediate recovery; for pain under the ribs and along the costal margin, puncture Yanglingquan (GB34) for immediate cessation; for head and neck pain, propose Houxi (SI3) for peace; for waist and foot pain, rely on Weizhong (BL40).
