Huangdi said: "One who is skilled in discussing the Way of Heaven must verify it in human beings. One who is skilled in discussing antiquity must align it with the present. One who is skilled in discussing humanity must reflect it upon oneself. If one is not confused by these principles, this is called 'Clarity' (Ming). I ask you, Master, that words can be understood, sights can be seen, and touch can be perceived. Now, regarding enlightenment and resolving confusion, may I hear your explanation?"
Qibo bowed his head and replied: "What Way do you inquire about? Heaven covers above, Earth supports below, all things are fully equipped, and nothing is more precious than humans. Humans are born from the Qi of Heaven and Earth, and their formation follows the laws of the Four Seasons. Rulers and officials govern the common people, desiring to preserve their physical forms and vital life. Although status differs between noble and base, the treasure of life is identical; loving life and hating death is the constant nature of the world. If a person falls ill, it is as urgent as rescuing from fire or drowning. Do not wait until pathogenic factors linger and deepen, penetrating into the bone marrow, for then treatment becomes difficult."
The presentation of Jian Jue (Frying Syncope) involves excessive mental labor causing Yang Qi to become agitated, leading to exhaustion of Jing Essence. Accumulating through summer, this results in blindness where vision is lost and deafness where hearing is blocked.
The presentation of Bo Jue (Thin Syncope) involves extreme anger causing Yang Qi to rebel, leading to the severance of Xing Qi (Form Qi) and blood stagnating at the upper body/head.
Distension and Sun Xie (undigested food diarrhea), with persistent cold-heat patterns and disrupted ascending-descending movement of Qi.
Tui Shan (testicular swelling/pain) and heart pulling pain, with cold sensation descending downward, forming various types of Hernia diseases.
Internal heat in the Heart causing pulling sensations, knotting of Yin and Yang, edema of the four limbs, and continuous hematochezia.
Gu disease (a severe deficiency condition often associated with parasitic or toxic accumulation), characterized by insufficiency of Kidney Qi, oppressive heat urgency, discharge of white turbid fluid, and jumping/twitching sensations.
Bladder dysfunction leads to San Jiao constraint resulting in enuresis. Insufficiency of Kidney Jing causes stiffness of the neck and dim vision.
Saliva resembling phlegm, aversion to wind, and chills constitute Lao Feng (Labor Wind). Even when wearing thick clothes, if Ying Qi is deficient and Wei Qi is excess, it is named Rou Ke (muscle numbness/atrophy).
If Cold transfers from the Heart to the Lung, Fei Xiao (Lung Consumption/Xiao Ke) occurs. If Cold transfers from the Lung to the Kidney, Yong Shui (Surging Water/edema) occurs. If Heat transfers from the Heart to the Lung, Ge Xiao (Diaphragmatic Consumption) occurs. If Heat transfers from the Gallbladder to the Brain, Bi Yuan (Nasal Sinusitis/Olfactory disorder) occurs. If Heat transfers from the Bladder to the Small Intestine, Kou Mi (Oral Ulceration/Mucosal erosion) occurs. If Heat transfers from the Large Intestine to the Stomach, it leads to rapid digestion and hunger after eating.
Excessive heat causes overflow of Yang Luo (Yang Collaterals); overflow of Yang Luo results in Nu Xue (epistaxis/nosebleed). Sexual intercourse while intoxicated exhausts Qi and damages the Liver, causing massive blood loss, scanty menstruation, or amenorrhea, named Xue Ku (Blood Dryness).
Accumulated heat and depression generate various Wind syndromes. The combination of Cold, Dampness, and Wind pathogens creates various Bi Syndromes (Obstruction syndromes). Flaccidity of Zong Jin (Major Tendons) manifests as Bai Yin (white discharge/slippage). Heat gathering at the stomach gate without dispersing causes Stomach Epigastric Abscess. White or black complexion indicates Se Tian (dull/discolored face indicating organ failure). Bitter taste with accumulated heat is named Dan Dan (Gallbladder Heat/Kidney Deficiency Syndrome). Kidney deficiency with internal depletion leads to Yin Fei (aphonia combined with flaccidity/paralysis). Exhaustion of Blood and Qi causes lethargy. Abdominal fullness and anorexia, with middle-jiao cold causing intestinal leakage, result in Tang Bian (loose stools). Pain in the waist and thighs, swelling, and difficulty in urination/defecation, with cold generating Ru Xie (watery diarrhea), are described here. This brief account does not cover all conditions.
