秘方补心(丸)
(Boil together) Paozhi (Cortex Cistanches, 4 liang), Hetao Rou (Walnut Kernel, 2 liang, pounded into paste), Hanlian Cao (Herba Ecliptae, boiled into paste, 4 liang), and Nvzhen Zi (Fructus Ligustri Lucidi, 4 liang). This formula has the effects of storing essence, benefiting blood, and moistening the intestines (made into pills). Use Mahan (Semen Cannabis, 3 liang) and Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum, 3 liang), both pounded into paste; Rongzhong (Cortex Cistanches, 1.5 liang); Zhike (Fructus Aurantii, 2 liang); Shudi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, 6 liang, mashed); Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis)... made into powder, refined honey used to form pills.
Yushuang Wan (Jade Frost Pill) (from *Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang*): Longgu (Os Draconis, 1 jin, water-flavored, steamed with Feidou [Black Soybeans] for one *fu* [approx. 4 hours], then dried); Rongzhong (Cortex Cistanches, 2 liang); Moli (Concha Ostreae, 3 liang); Cishi (Magnetitum, 2 liang); Zhusha (Cinnabaris, 2 liang); Shihu (Herba Dendrobii, 2 liang); Lurong (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, 0.5 liang, soaked in wine and roasted); Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, 2 liang); Tusizi (Semen Cuscutae, 3 liang); Ze Xie (Rhizoma Alismatis, 2 liang); Huixiang (Fructus Foeniculi, 1 liang); Jiuzi (Semen Allii Tuberosi, stir-fried, 5 liang); Tianxiong (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, 10 liang: soaked in wine for 7 days, dig a pit, heat charcoal until red, quickly remove fire, pour 2 sheng of vinegar into the pit, wait until dry, then insert Tianxiong, cover with a basin and seal with soil, leave overnight, take out, remove skin and navel). This formula has the functions of astringing essence, grasping qi, and strengthening yang. (This formula treats Kidney damage and bone atrophy. Liu Hansu stated in *Suwen Bingji Qi Yi Baoming Ji*: "For Kidney damage causing bone atrophy where the patient cannot rise from bed, it is appropriate to benefit essence.") Jinbi Wan consists of Rongzhong and Duzhong in equal parts. Weishen Wan (Liu Hansu stated in *Suwen Bingji Qi Yi Baoming Ji*: "When Kidney and Liver damage affect the Spleen, leading to undigested food, it is appropriate to benefit essence and soothe the middle to digest food. For severe lower back pain preventing rising, this is very effective.") Add Tusizi (Semen Cuscutae) and Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Baijili (Fructus Tribuli), Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi), Huba (Semen Phaseoli Radiati), Paozhi (Cortex Cistanches), and Zhu Yaozi (Porcine Kidney, cooked, mixed with herbs and formed into pills). This can stabilize Spleen damage and Kidney atrophy.
Xu Shuwei's *Pujiben Shi Fang* contains Duzhong Xuduan Wan, composed of Qianghuo (Radix Notopterygii), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Bibi (Rhizoma Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae), Yiren (Semen Coicis), Duzhong (Cortex Eucommiae), Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), and Chuiduan (Radix Drynariae). It treats lower back and spine pain due to Wind-Deficiency of Liver and Kidney, difficulty walking, lower back and spine pain, and Wind invasion.
Sun Simiao's *Qianjin Yaofang* contains Qianghuo Busui Wan, using Niusui (Ossis Bovinis Medulla, 1 sheng), Yangsui (Ossis Ovis Medulla, 1 sheng), Su (Butyrum, 1 sheng), along with Chuanxiong (Radix Chuanxiong, 3 liang) and Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis)... It treats Gallbladder Cold and can rescue deficiency consumptive diseases.
Rongzhong Lurong Jiuzi Wan (also known as Jiajiuzi Wan): Shudi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, 2 liang), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi, 1 liang), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 2 liang), Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, 1 liang), Duzhong (Cortex Eucommiae, 1 liang), Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, 2 liang), kneaded together; Shihu (Herba Dendrobii, 1 liang), Tusizi (Semen Cuscutae, 1.5 liang), Bajirou (Radix Morindae Officinalis, 1.5 liang). This formula assists yang, secures the Kidney, and warms the Uterus cold. It is excellent for white turbidity and spermatorrhea, treating the same condition for both elderly and children regarding enuresis. (This formula treats elderly enuresis, and white turbidity/spermatorrhea caused by decline of Yang. Children's enuresis is also due to insufficient Yang.)
Weixi Wan: Huangla (Yellow Beeswax, 4 liang, melted), Baifuling (Poria, 4 liang: boiled with Sizhuling [Polyporus, 4 qian] for over 20 boils, remove Sizhuling, dry and use, i.e., make into beeswax pills the size of bullet seeds, chew thoroughly on an empty stomach, swallow with saliva produced). Originally treated emissions due to sexual excess. Later generations used it to treat Phlegm-Fire and chronic cough due to Lung deficiency with considerable effect. (*Baopuzi* states: "Poria growing for a thousand years produces small trees on top, resembling lotus flowers, named Weixi Zhi." Now, using aged, dense Poria combined with Polyporus to drain dampness from the anterior orifices; Yellow Beeswax has a mild and astringent nature, capable of repairing extremes and supplementing marrow, specifically regulating the Yang aspect damaged by excess, and organizing chaotic essence, treating emissions and leukorrhea due to Yang deficiency and exhaustion. If treating Lung deficiency with Phlegm-Fire and chronic cough, the Poria need not be dense, and Polyporus may be omitted.)
Liu Songshi's Zhudu Wan: Kushen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis, 3 liang), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 4 liang), Muli (Concha Ostreae, 4 liang: wash one pig stomach clean, boil until soft, mix with herbs and form pills). Treats emaciation and seminal emission due to consumption. Thickens the Stomach, drains dampness, and strengthens Yin. (Liu Songshi said: "Not only does it treat emissions, but it can also fatten those who are emaciated and consumptive." This treats obese individuals, following the principle of *San Yin Fang*'s Huanglian Zhudu Wan. Obese people often indulge in rich foods and fine wines, leading to Damp-Heat brewing in the Spleen and Stomach over time, causing nocturnal emissions during dreams. Treatment uses the pig stomach, which is Earth within Water, to thicken the Stomach and drain water; Baizhu strengthens the Spleen to overcome dampness, cutting off the source; Kushen drains Spleen dampness and strengthens Kidney Yin; assisted by Muli's salty-cold nature to overcome heat, astringe and stop emissions. By controlling where the dampness goes, righteous Qi is restored, so even with dreams, there is no emission. Although variations of emission are numerous, they fall within the categories of dream/no-dream and Damp-Heat, allowing for skillful treatment like Cook Ding carving an ox. Emaciation despite good appetite is also due to Stomach Damp-Heat, hence this formula works.)
Gujing Wan treats emission without dreams (treats sliding essence without dreams): Lurong (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, one piece), Lu Jiaoshuang (Horn Frost of Deer, same weight as Lurong), Yangqi (Yangqishi [Mineralum Actinolitum], 5 qian), Fuling (Poria...), Bajirou (Radix Morindae Officinalis, 5 qian), Rongzhong (Cortex Cistanches, 1 liang), Jiuzi (Semen Allii Tuberosi, 1 liang), Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, fried, 5 qian), Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae, 5 qian), Qinghua Longgu (Os Draconis...), uncontrollable, leaking upon slightest contact, not requiring dreams to emit, similar to wandering Yang. Treatment must raise Yang and secure Qi; mere astringency is useless. Also treats impotence.
Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) (from *Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang*): Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Fuling (Poria) each 2 qian, Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) 1 qian, embodying the meaning of harmony. Deficiency leads to the generation of hundred diseases. (The Spleen is Central Earth, penetrating the Four Zang organs and commanding the Six Fu organs. Spleen deficiency leads to the generation of hundred diseases. Zhang Lu said: "For chronic illnesses that do not heal... Spleen and Kidney tonification are two paths." This is a key principle. Wang Xugao notes: For chronic illness with emaciation, if there is no fullness in the chest, tonify the Kidney; if there is fullness in the chest... Spleen, also a key principle. Xu Shuwei said "Tonifying Spleen is not as good as tonifying Kidney," Sun Simiao said "Tonifying Kidney is not as good as tonifying Spleen," both are correct, stemming from these key principles.) When the pulse is fine and soft, it must be observed. (A fine and soft pulse indicates Spleen Qi deficiency, suitable for this decoction. If fine and rapid, it indicates Spleen Blood... Gui Pi Tang.) Adding Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae) and Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) creates Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction), for dispelling phlegm and tonifying Qi in Yang deficiency. (Erchen dispels phlegm, Sijunzi tonifies Qi; suitable for Spleen weakness, Yang deficiency, and phlegm.) Removing Banxia creates Yigong San (Extraordinary Power Powder) (Qian Yi's *Xiao'er Yaozheng Zhijue* regulates Spleen and Stomach... adding Muxiang (Radix Aucklandoniae) and Sharen (Fructus Amomi) for Stomach Cold. Named Xiangsha Liujunzi Tang, treats deficiency-cold stomach pain.) Sijunzi plus Suanzaoren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae) and Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) decoction (Hu Qia's formula cited in *Yifang Jijie*) is excellent for palpitations and insomnia. (Water retention under the Heart causes palpitations, hence Shengjiang moves water; deficiency vexation causes insomnia, hence Suanzaoren calms the Spirit.) Liujunzi plus Jiangzhi (Stamen Zingiberis) and Zhuli (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia) decoction (Zhu Zhenheng's *Danxi Xinfa*) is primary for hemiplegia and Phlegm-Jue. (Right-sided hemiplegia belongs to Qi deficiency, suitable for this decoction; left-sided hemiplegia belongs to Blood deficiency, suitable for Siwu Tang. However, do not be rigid. If sudden death occurs, throat... named Phlegm-Jue syndrome. There is also Qi-Jue, stroke, and evil invasion, similar to this, each having its own treatment.)
Shenling Baizhu San: Bidou (Semen Lablab Album), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Lianxin (Plumula Nelumbinis), Sharen (Fructus Amomi), Yiren (Semen Coicis) (all ingredients tonify Spleen and move Qi), Jiegeng (Radix Platycodi) floats upward (carrying medicine upward) and protects the Lung, (to prevent drying medicines from floating too high), taken with Jujube decoction to miraculously benefit the Spleen. (To treat Spleen and Stomach, tonify deficiency, remove dampness, move stagnation, regulate... this formula achieves this.)
Shiwei Renshen San: Uses Liujunzi Tang (Ren Shen, Fuling, Baizhu, Gancao, Banxia, Chenpi). Adds Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri), Gegen (Radix Puerariae), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae). Spleen deficiency with fatigue and tidal fever. (Treats deficiency-tidal fever and body fatigue.) Tonifies Qi, raises Yang, and restores Yin. (Liujunzi Tang tonifies Qi and dispels phlegm; Chai and Ge clear heat, Shaoyao benefits Yin.)
Qiwei Baizhu San: Complete Sijunzi Tang (Ren Shen, Fuling, Baizhu, Gancao). Adds Huoxiang (Herba Pogostemonis), Gange (Radix Puerariae Lobatae), Muxiang (Radix Aucklandoniae). Tonifies Spleen (function of Sijunzi) and transforms turbidity (function of Huoxiang) to generate fluids. (Ren Shen, Baizhu, and Gange all generate fluids.) Highly effective for Wine Accumulation (vomiting and hiccup due to wine) and Spleen deficiency diarrhea/thirst decoction. (Treats Spleen deficiency diarrhea effectively.)
Sanbai Tang: For deficiency vexation, thirst, and diarrhea. (Baizhu, Shaoyao, Baifuling, hence named "Three Whites"). Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) facilitate. There is also Shenhu Sanbai Tang, suitable for both internal injury and external contraction. (A miraculous formula for regulating internal injury and external contraction.) Sishun Tang treats Spleen deficiency cold. Remove Fuling from Sijunzi Tang and add Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens). (Add Ganjiang) Abdominal pain, fear of light, pulse deep and without heat indicates Yin syndrome. "If Yin and Yang are not distinguished, tentatively administer it. If Yang Jue involves heat, Yin syndrome involves no heat.")
Pediatrics also has Liushen San (treats continued fever after exterior heat subsides in children). Continued fever after exterior heat subsides. One can know the profound function of Sijunzi Tang, suitable for deficiency heat. (Sishun Tang treats deficiency-cold, Liushen San treats deficiency-heat, both modified from Sijunzi.) Liushen San is Sijunzi Tang plus Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), Baifuling (Poria), Bidou (Semen Lablab Album), Jingmi (Semen Oryzae Sativum). (Sijunzi plus Shanyao, Bidou, Jingmi, decocted with Shengjiang and Dazao.) Harmonizing Stomach Qi removes heat naturally. Physicians... (Chen Wuyue's *San Yin Ji Yi Bing Zheng Fang Lun* states: "When children's heat stops and restarts, worldly physicians do not understand. Some re-release the exterior, some say it is untreatable. This is deficiency of both interior and exterior, Qi not returning to its root, and Yang floating outward, hence recurrent fever, not... Liushen San with Jingmi decocted harmonizes Stomach Qi, gathering Yang Qi inward and cooling the body." Jingmi in the formula must not be omitted.) Add Yinchaihu (Radix Agrimoniae Pilosae) and Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Yinbai Tang treats severe continued fever. (For severe heat, add Yinchaihu and Huangqin, named Yinbai Tang.)
Jianpi Wan: Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), and Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus), Shanzha (Fructus Crataegi), Maiya (Fructus Hordei Germinatus) as needed. Made into pills with Qu paste, taken with Rice Drink, combining elimination and tonification. (Ren Shen and Baizhu earth-fried each 2 liang, Chenpi and Maiya stir-fried each 1 liang, Shanzha 1.5 liang, Zhishi bran-fried 3 liang.) Zhizhu Wan (Li Dongyuan's *Wai Shang Bian Huo Lun* citing Zhang Jiegu's formula) also combines elimination and tonification. (Baizhu 2 liang, Zhishi bran-fried 1 liang.) Wrapped in Lotus Leaf with stale rice and baked dry into pills, guiding Stomach Qi and Shaoyang Gallbladder Qi upward. But decocting Zhizhu Wan as a soup treats hardness under the heart and fluid retention. (*Jinkui - Shuiqi Pian* states: "Hardness under the heart, large as a plate, edge like a rotating cup, caused by fluid retention. Zhishi 7 pieces, Baizhu 2 liang, decoct soup warm drink. Abdominal rumbling, it will scatter.")
Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Central-Replenishing Qi-Boosting Decoction) (Li Dongyuan's *Wai Shang Bian Huo Lun*): Huangqi (Radix Astragali) honey-fried 1 qian, Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) earth-fried, Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) keeping the white, Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri)... Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) ascends, filling the Couli (pores), making the defensive exterior solid. All tonifications of Spleen and Stomach Qi are often named Rising-Yang and Boosting-Qi, this is it." Wang Ang's *Yifang Jijie* cites Ren Shen and Huang Qi... excels in treating injuries. (Wang Xugao notes: Hunger, fullness, labor, and service injure Spleen and Stomach Qi, then all bodies lack Qi and become ill. Symptoms include body heat, headache, aversion to cold, resembling external contraction, but with reluctance to speak, shortness of breath, limb fatigue, pulse洪大 (great) and deficient, this can be distinguished. External contraction fever continues unceasingly; internal injury fever comes and goes. External contraction has coarse nasal breathing; internal injury has faint nasal breathing. External contraction headache and aversion to cold cease only when transmitting to the interior; internal injury headache and aversion to cold come and go suddenly. See Dongyuan's *Wai Shang Bian*, read carefully.) Also substitutes for dispersing. (Wang Ang's *Yifang Jijie* cites Li Shicai: "For deficient persons with colds who cannot tolerate dispersing agents, this formula can substitute for dispersing drugs.") Aversion to food, reluctance to speak, limb fatigue (all Spleen deficiency symptoms), aversion to cold and fever (Yang deficiency causes exterior cold, Yin deficiency causes interior heat). Qi insecurity causes excessive sweating. Wang Ang's *Yifang Jijie* says: "Yang deficiency spontaneous sweating, suitable for Buzhong Yiqi Tang adding Mahuanggen (Radix Ephedrae) and Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri), both should be honey-water fried, to guide Ren Shen and Huang Qi to the exterior, hence indispensable." Can treat damage to Heart, Liver, and Lung. (Note: Although this formula is the main agent for fatigue injuring Spleen, it can also be used for unsmooth Yang Qi in Heart, Liver, and Lung meridians. *Neijing* states: "For exhaustion, warm it; for damage, warm it. Damage to Lung benefits Qi, damage to Heart regulates Ying and Wei." Only unsuitable for Kidney. Ke Qin said: "Unsuitable for ascending, those with Yang deficiency below are even more unsuitable for ascending." Lu Lijing said: "If the two Chi pulses are weak and minute, Yuan Qi is declining, if further ascending and lifting, it is like a great tree about to shake and pulling up its roots.") Malaria and dysentery persisting long due to Qi deficiency sinking. Spleen deficiency and Yang sinking is unparalleled. Must avoid if completely without chills and fever. (Wang Xugao notes: This formula was established for such cases, to supplement what Taiyang disease did not reach, not a deficiency-tonifying formula. Modern practitioners dare not use it in external contractions, losing Dongyuan's original intent. Although it tonifies Qi rather than induces sweating, it actually has the meaning of dispersing without dispersing, most suitable for Spleen Qi sinking syndromes. If completely without exterior pathogen chills/fever, but only Middle Qi sinking, it is suitable. Although Sheng and Chai can guide clear Qi upward, only those with pathogens can be dispersed via ascending; what about those without pathogenic Qi! Dongyuan's formulas, regardless of internal injury or external contraction, generally focus on ascending and lifting Middle Qi, thinking at the time... one must examine carefully.) Do not mistakenly follow if seeing Phlegm-Wheezing. (Upper Jiao Phlegm-Heat causing wheezing or vomiting, contraindicated.)
Buyin Yiqi Jian (Nourishing-Yin Boosting-Qi Decoction) by Zhang Jiebin. (Remove Huangqi and Baizhu, add Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), Shudi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae)... *Xinfang Bazhen*). True efficacy for Yin deficiency with external contraction, changing old methods to new ones. (Zhang Jiebin said: "For Qi insufficiency with virtual pathogen external invasion, using this ascending and dispersing method, none fails.") Muxiang Yiqi Tang (Li Dongyuan's *Piwei Lun) smooths Spleen.
Danggui Buxue Tang: Authored by Dongyuan, Huangqi (Radix Astragali) 1 liang, Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) 2 qian. (Wu Hegao's *Yifang Kao* states: "Huangqi is many times more than Danggui... because tangible Blood cannot generate itself, it is born from intangible Qi. The Classic says 'Yang generates, Yin grows,' this is what is meant. Blood deficiency with severe vexation and thirst, great and deficient pulse suitable for this decoction. (*Weisheng Baojian* states: "Men and women with Blood deficiency fever, red face, vexation, thirst craving drink, pulse great and deficient, heavy pressure slight, Danggui Buxue Tang governs." This is a formula tonifying Qi and Blood, misusing Baihu Tang...)
Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) (*Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang*): Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Chuanxiong (Radix Chuanxiong), this formula passes through all diseases of blood patients. (This is the master formula for Blood diseases.) Bashen Tang combined with Sijunzi Tang (Ren Shen, Fuling, Baizhu, Gancao), dual therapy of Qi and Blood has unique merit. (Sijunzi tonifies Qi, Siwu tonifies Blood.) Adding Huangqi (Radix Astragali) (assists Yang and secures Wei) and Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi) (guids Fire back to Source), Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Substance Great Tonifying Decoction) is the hero of tonifying formulas. (The hero among tonifying formulas.)
Weifeng Tang (Zhang Jiegu's formula). Wind entering intestines becomes Sundxie (undigested food diarrhea), Spleen deficiency Bloody Dysentery treatment is the same. (Xu Yan Chun's *Yuji Wei Yi* states: "This formula treats Wind entering intestines/stomach becoming Sundxie undigested food. Named Weifeng, but actually not a wind-dispelling drug, tonifies Blood and harmonizes Stomach, making Wind self-remove. For Spleen deficiency bloody dysentery with Dampness, it can truly rely on.")
Renshen Yangying Tang: Is Shiquan Dabu Tang removing Chuanxiong, adding Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Yuanzhi (Radix Polygalae), Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens), Dazao (Fructus Jujubae). Removing Chuanxiong and Wuweizi linked, Chenpi, Yuanzhi added with Shengjiang and Dazao, first formula for tonifying Heart and Spleen Qi and Blood. (Original formula states treating Spleen-Lung Qi and Blood double deficiency. Yu Jiayan's *Yimen Falü* items in formula are medicines for Heart and Spleen two Zang, not very cutting for tonifying Lung, the note Lung deficiency under formula is error." Qi deficiency but throwing this agent all can recover. (Xue Lizhai said: "Qi and Blood double deficiency, manifesting various syndromes, cannot be named. Regardless of... all syndromes retreat.")
