(Treating generalized numbness.)
Huangqi (Radix Astragali) (1 liang), Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) (each 5 qian), Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, processed, 1 piece), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) (3 qian).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, mix with refined honey to make pills, sized like Sophora japonica seeds. Take 30-50 pills per dose, swallowed with wine.
Another prescription: For treating pain and numbness in all ten fingers. Use 3 qian of Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata), boil until cooked, add 1 qian of Guangmuxiang (Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum), grind into juice, mix and take orally.
Another prescription: For treating skin numbness and itching, use Mangcao (Herba Siegesbeckiae) decoction for bathing; effective.
The Classics state: All disorders of Qi stagnation belong to the Lung.
Heaven and Earth have four seasons, generating Cold, Heat, Dryness, Dampness, Wind, and Fire; Humans have five Zang organs and five Qi aspects, generating Joy, Anger, Worry, Thought, Sorrow, and Fear. Anger causes Qi to rise upward, Joy causes Qi to relax and slow down, Sorrow causes Qi to dissipate, Fear causes Qi to sink downward, Cold causes Qi to contract, Heat causes Qi to leak out, Shock causes Qi to become chaotic, Labor causes Qi to be consumed, Thought causes Qi to knot and bind. These are the diseases caused by these nine changes in Qi.
It is also said: Joy and Anger damage Qi, Cold and Heat damage the Form. Violent anger damages Yin Blood, violent joy damages Yang Qi. When rebellious Qi ascends, it fills the vessels and separates spirit from form. If Joy and Anger are not regulated, and Cold and Heat are excessive, life's foundation becomes unstable. Therefore, extreme Yin must transform into Yang, and extreme Yang must transform into Yin.
When Human Yang Qi is subjected to excessive mental labor, it expands and flares up, leading to exhaustion of Essence. If this accumulates into summer, it causes Jian Jue (Fever-induced Syncope). The eyes may go blind and cannot see, the ears may close and cannot hear. It is critical, like a collapsing city wall, unstoppable and turbulent.
If Yang Qi flares up due to great anger, the Form and Qi become severed, and Blood stagnates at the upper part of the body, causing Jian Jue (Fever-induced Syncope).
Yang Qi nourishes the Spirit when focused and pure, and nourishes the Tendons when soft and flexible. If the opening and closing of the pores fails, Cold Qi enters, resulting in severe kyphosis (large curvature of the spine). If pathogens sink into the vessels, they cause Wei Syndrome (flaccidity syndrome), lingering in the muscle layers.
When Shaoyang disease occurs, there is shortness of breath, frequent coughing, and frequent diarrhea. Its transmission can lead to Heart palpitations/tugging (Xin Che) or Diaphragm obstruction (Ge).
Due to Qi stagnation, edema arises. When the four limbs alternate in symptoms, Yang Qi is exhausted.
When Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) does not flow smoothly and reverses into the muscle tissue, Carbuncles and Swellings arise.
Qi injury causes pain; Form injury causes swelling. If pain precedes swelling, Qi has damaged the Form; if swelling precedes pain, Form has damaged Qi.
Clear Qi that should ascend but remains below leads to Sund Xie (undigested food diarrhea); Turbid Qi that should descend but remains above leads to Zhang Man (distension and fullness).
