Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 1 liang) Fuling (Poria, 1 liang) Xiao Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, 8 qian) Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 5 qian) Xingren Ni (Apricot Seed Paste, 6 qian) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 1 liang)
Decoct with Ganlan Water (Agitated Water, 8 bowls) until reduced to 3 bowls. Decoct the dregs again to obtain 1 bowl. Divide into four doses for administration.
Patient Yan, male, 42 years old. Date: 24th day of the first lunar month, Bingyin year. Symptoms: Cough without desire to drink, orthopnea (inability to lie flat due to breathing difficulty), hypochondriac pain, spontaneous sweating, insomnia. Pulse: Wiry and moderate. Proposal: Modify Xiao Qing Long Tang (Minor Blue Dragon Decoction) by removing Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and Xixin (Asari Radix), add Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) and Yiren (Coicis Semen), and increase the dosage of Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma).
Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 6 qian) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 3 qian) Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus, 0.5 qian) Zhi Gancao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 qian) Jiao Baishao (Scorched Paeoniae Radix Alba, 3 qian) Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 1 liang)
Xingren Ni (Apricot Seed Paste, 6 qian) Sheng Yiren (Raw Coicis Semen, 1 liang)
Decoct with Ganlan Water (Agitated Water, 8 bowls) until reduced to 3 bowls. Divide into three doses for administration.
27th Day: Vomiting cold water. Add Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 2 qian) and Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 3 qian) to the previous formula to resolve phlegm-qi.
1st Day of the Second Lunar Month: The *Jin Gui Yao Lue* states that Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) and Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) are hot herbs; after taking them, thirst should ensue. Now, the patient is not thirsty, which indicates the presence of Yin fluid retention (Yin). This condition not only lacks thirst but also involves continuous vomiting of cold water, undoubtedly indicating Cold Fluid Retention (Han Yin). Since it is truly known to be Fluid Retention, why fear using heavy dosages of Jiang (Ginger) and Gui (Cinnamon)? Those who cannot prescribe formulas in the world fail to truly understand the disease condition. Those who fear and dare not take medicine also fail to truly understand the disease condition.
Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 8 qian) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 7 qian) Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus, 0.5 qian) Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 2 qian) Jiao Baishao (Scorched Paeoniae Radix Alba, 4 qian) Dai Pi Ling (Poria with Peel, 4 qian)

Decoct with Ganlan Water (Agitated Water, 8 cups) until reduced to 3 cups. Decoct the dregs again to obtain 1 cup. Divide into four doses for administration.
Patient Kun, male, 42 years old. Date: 26th day of the first lunar month. Patients with chronic Fluid Retention suffer from vertigo and dizziness. Use the method of Baizhu Zexie Tang (Atractylodis Macrocephalae and Alisma Decoction). Pulse: Surging, slippery, and deep.
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang) Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 2 liang) Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 1 liang) Fuling Kuai (Poria Cubes, 1 liang) Xiao Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, 3 qian)
Decoct with Ganlan Water (Agitated Water, 8 bowls) until reduced to 3 bowls. Decoct the dregs again to obtain 1 bowl. Divide into four doses for administration. One dose administered over three days.
26th Day: Add Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam, 6 qian) to the previous formula. Mix 3 small spoons of Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens Juice) into each cup.
10th Day of the Second Lunar Month: Pulse: Deep, faint, and rapid.
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang) Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 2 liang) Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 1 liang) Fuling Kuai (Poria Cubes, 1 liang) Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam, 1 liang)
Pill Formula:
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 8 liang) Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, 8 liang) Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 8 liang) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 6 liang) Yunling (Poria, 6 liang)
Grind all into fine powder. Make pills using Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) paste prepared with Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens Juice), size of Wuzi (Wu Tzu seeds). Take 3 qian per dose, twice daily. For severe cases, three times daily.
Mrs. Tao, female, 36 years old. Date: 25th day of the second lunar month. Phlegm-Fluid Retention disease with surging and rapid pulse, cough, orthopnea, sweating, and Chest Bi (Obstruction Syndrome).
Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 5 qian) Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 8 qian) Xingren Ni (Apricot Seed Paste, 5 qian) Zhi Gancao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 3 qian) Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 6 qian) Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, 5 qian) Lao Chuanpu (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 3 qian) Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 2 qian)
Decoct to obtain 3 cups. Divide into three doses for administration.
Patient [Name Omitted]: Xuan Yin (Hanging Fluid) syndrome. Water resides in the Liver. Purging is necessary. However, since this is the initial consultation, use a mild method.
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 1 liang) Suzi Shuang (Perillae Fructus Frost, 3 qian) Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, 3 qian) Jiangxiang Mo (Dalbergiae Odoriferae Lignum Powder, 3 qian) Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos, 4 qian) Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 3 qian)
Sheng Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, 5 qian)
Mrs. Tong, female, 75 years old. Pulse: Deep, thin, and irregular. Panting, fullness, shortness of breath, palpitations, Qi rebellion obstructing the chest, cough with orthopnea. This is caused by Middle Jiao Phlegm-Fluid Retention and Lower Jiao Turbid Fluid Retention. The elderly rely entirely on Yang Qi for life. Now, Yin Qi and Yin pathogens rebel upwards so severely, how can the body withstand it? Tentatively apply the method of Unblocking Yang and Descending Turbidity.
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 2 liang) Fuling (Poria, 6 qian) Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos, 4 qian) Shumi (Sorghum Indicum Grain, 1 he) Xiao Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, 1 liang) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 6 qian)
Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 6 qian)
Decoct to obtain 3 bowls. Divide into three doses for administration.
17th Day: Xuan Yin (Hanging Fluid) causes internal pain and borborygmus. Purging is indicated, but due to advanced age and chronic deficiency, purging is not dared. Only the method of Descending Rebellion remains.
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 2 liang) Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 5 qian) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 1 liang) Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 5 qian) Jiaomu (Phytolaccae Semen, 4 qian) Xiebai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus, 5 qian) Xiao Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, 1 liang) Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos, 3 qian) Shumi (Sorghum Indicum Grain, 5 qian)
18th Day: Near eighty years old, suffering from all five types of Fluid Retention, combined with Lower Jiao Turbid Fluid Retention rising with Liver Qi, forcing Heart Fire downwards, leading to chest fullness and mental confusion/helplessness. Two applications of Unblocking Yang and Descending Rebellion yielded no effect. It is likely because True Yang is too deficient in old age, unable to grow even for a moment, thus Yin turbidity is hard to dispel temporarily. Add an Aromatic Opening method to the previous formula.
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 1 liang) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 1 liang) Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus, 3 qian) Jiangxiang (Dalbergiae Odoriferae Lignum, 3 qian) Xiao Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, 1 liang) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 5 qian) Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 6 qian) Xiebai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus, 3 qian) Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, 2 qian, finely ground and mixed) Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 5 qian) Fuling (Poria, 1 liang, with peel)
Again: Five types of Fluid Retention combined with Turbid Yin attacking upwards. Yesterday, Linggui (Poria and Cinnamon Twig) was used to heavily attack Kidney evil, using large acrid-sweet herbs to open Middle Yang. Although slight effect was seen, the general trend shows excessive Yin and deficient Yang. Fear that recovery will be difficult in real-time. Tentatively apply the method of Simultaneously Unblocking Yang of the Three Jiaos.
Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 6 qian) Fuling (Poria, 1 liang) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 1 liang) Lao Chuanpu (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 3 qian) Gong Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos, 3 qian) Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex, 2 qian, finely ground and mixed) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 5 qian) Xiao Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, 6 qian) Xiebai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus, 4 qian) Hei Chenxiang (Black Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, 3 qian) Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 6 qian) Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 4 qian)
20th Day: Still follow the previous method with slight modification.
Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 6 qian) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 5 qian) Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 8 qian) Xiao Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, 5 qian) Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 4 qian) Lao Chuanpu (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 3 qian)
Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex, 3 qian) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 1 liang) Xiebai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus, 3 qian) Yunling (Poria, 1 liang) Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper, 5 qian, stir-fried)
23rd Day: Bladder has opened. Today, there is no need to attack Kidney evil further. Qi obstruction below the heart prevents sleep. Still focus on the Middle Jiao, using Descending Rebellion method to enable sleep.
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 2 liang) Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 5 qian) Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens Juice, half cup, mixed) Shumi (Sorghum Indicum Grain, 1 he) Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos, 5 qian) Xiao Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, 8 qian) Daizheshi (Ochre, 8 qian)
24th Day: Yesterday, Descending Rebellion and Harmonizing Stomach method showed effect. Although rebellious Qi descended, obstruction still occurs occasionally. This is due to heavy Yin turbidity and Liver Qi rebellion.
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 1 liang) Xiao Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, 6 qian) Dai Pi Ling (Poria with Peel, 1 liang) Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos, 4 qian) Daizheshi (Ochre, 8 qian) Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 4 qian) Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens Juice, half cup, mixed)
