The eyes, if there are red blood vessels at the inner and outer canthi, as well as polyps, should be hooked up and excised completely with a Pi needle (a surgical knife). If not completely removed, repeat the excision until finished. Treatment must be meticulous. In severe cases where the pathogen invades the Water Wheel (pupil), use a curved comb to lift the lesion, avoiding traction damage to the pupil. One must be steady and prudent, never careless. The pupil is very thin and should not be injured. Hooking, cutting, and needling should not be performed in the morning. In the morning, the abdomen is empty and the five Zang organs are deficient, which may lead to dizziness, fainting, or collapse. It is also necessary to have someone support the head. Such occurrences indicate a weak constitution; gradual regulation is essential. Generally, hooking and cutting should not be done hastily but with careful measurement, gradually scraping and washing, to avoid the risk of dizziness. For conditions involving red vessels and fleshy growths suitable for needle-knife treatment, this method should be followed.
The eyes are the manifestation of the essence and spirit of the whole body, comparable to the sun and moon of the five Zang organs. If Liver Qi is harmonious and flowing freely, various diseases will not arise. If the Zang and Fu organs are obstructed and cannot circulate smoothly, disease ensues.
