(Dysentery and diarrhea are treated similarly)
*Chao Shi Bing Yuan* Syndrome of Pediatric Diarrhea Accompanied by Thirst: This is water-grain diarrhea where body fluids are depleted; deficiency and dryness of the internal organs lead to drinking water. If urination is smooth, the diarrhea stops, and thirst ceases; if urination is difficult, water fails to circulate through the small intestine and seeps into the intestines and stomach, causing persistent thirst and unceasing diarrhea. In all such cases, the body swells because the Spleen Qi is weak and cannot control water retention; eye pain and visual obstructions are also inevitable. Children naturally have heat in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner); now, due to diarrhea, the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner) becomes deficient while heat in the Upper Jiao intensifies, steaming the Liver.
Mr. Mao on Pediatric Middle-Thirst Diarrhea Syndrome: Extreme thirst, excessive sleepiness, abdominal distension, occasional fright during sleep, and passage of white fluid in stool. This syndrome originates from injury to the Spleen and Stomach caused by ingesting indigestible hard substances. Treatment involves first using Xingpi San (Wake the Spleen Powder - see Stomach Qi Disharmony section or Slow Spleen Wind section), then Yunqi San (Harmonize Qi Powder - see Stomach Qi Disharmony section) for one day, followed by Tiaozhong Yin (Regulate the Middle Drink) mixed with Ruxiang San (Frankincense Powder - see All Diarrhea section) and Longxian Gao (Dragon Saliva Paste - see Heat-Thirst section) for conditioning until recovery.
