Second Visit: After taking the medicine, the patient's appetite increased, urine color changed from dark yellow to light yellow, bowel movements occurred twice daily with yellow loose stools, and mental spirit improved. The tongue coating was white and greasy, and the pulse was slow and slightly rapid. The condition improved, indicating that the medication was effective. Without changing the prescription, Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu) 12g, Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Houpo) 12g, Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli (Jineijin) 10g, and Amomi Fructus (Sharen) 6g were added to the original formula.

With modifications to the above formula, treatment lasted for a total of 52 days. The condition improved significantly, and clinical symptoms basically disappeared. Liver function tests showed: except for the Thymol Turbidity Test decreasing to 9 units and the Thymol Flocculation Test decreasing to (++), all other indicators returned to normal. After another half month of treatment, symptoms completely disappeared, liver function tests and liver size returned to the normal range, body weight increased by 5 kg, and the patient was discharged as cured.

Commentary: Old Li uses few herbs and small dosages in treating diseases. In the application of formulas for clearing heat and promoting diuresis, he heavily relies on three herbs: Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (Yinchen), Paeoniae Rubra Radix (Chishao), and Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdi). He utilizes Yinchen to remove dampness and resolve jaundice, Chishao to invigorate blood and resolve stasis, and Shengdi to nourish yin and descend fire. Combined with herbs that harmonize the stomach and strengthen the spleen, this approach not only resolves jaundice but also restores the healthy transportation function of the spleen and stomach. This is a characteristic of his treatment of severe hepatitis, focusing on prescribing based on main symptoms. Regardless of whether the patient has constipation, he timely uses raw Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Sheng Dahuang) to unblock the bowels and drain heat, allowing damp-heat and toxic fire to exit from below. This is another characteristic. Amidst the large amount of bitter-cold purgative drugs for clearing and draining, he pays great attention to protecting stomach qi. This case reflects Old Li's three major principles in treating liver diseases: clearing, harmonizing, and draining.

Cancer
The main formula remains unchanged to address cancer tumors, while auxiliary formulas are flexible according to syndromes. Cancer, i.e., malignant tumors, is one of the most serious diseases endangering human life and health in today's world. Old Li believes that although humanity has not yet found methods and drugs to thoroughly conquer cancer, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has certain advantages in improving symptoms, alleviating patient suffering, and prolonging survival for various cancers. TCM's understanding of tumors is scattered in historical medical literature, falling under the category of "Zheng Jia Ji Ju" (masses and accumulations), accumulating rich prevention and treatment experience and knowledge. Summarized, it essentially involves equal emphasis on eliminating pathogenic factors and supporting healthy qi, focusing on the body's overall anti-disease ability. Specific treatment methods also emphasize two points: both attacking pathogens and killing tumors (such as "opening qi and moving stagnation," "clearing heat and detoxifying," "invigorating blood and resolving stasis," "softening hardness and dissipating nodules," "transforming phlegm and promoting dampness drainage," etc.) and emphasizing holistic syndrome differentiation and targeted treatment. Therefore, Old Li advocates that for difficult and major diseases like cancer, one should not be limited solely to syndrome differentiation and treatment. Instead, one should summarize the commonalities of various cancers, find a main formula for overcoming cancer and killing tumors, and then determine auxiliary formulas targeting specific syndromes based on the individuality of different cancers and patient syndrome types. Using both main and auxiliary formulas simultaneously can achieve better results. Below are Old Li's commonly used main anti-cancer formulas and auxiliary formulas for various specific cancers and different syndromes.

Anti-Cancer Main Formula - Shennong Pill.
Prescription Composition: Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum (Chenxiang) 15g, Aquilariae Lignum (Guangmuxiang) 9g, Eugeniae Flos (Gongdingxiang) 9g, Santali Albi Lignum (Baitanxiang) 6g, Dalbergiae Odoriferae Lignum (Jiangxiang) 9g, Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhishi) 15g, Curcumae Radix (Chuanyujin) 4.5g, Curcumae Zedoariae Rhizoma (Ezhu) 4.5g, Angelicae Sinensis Radix Caudex (Guiwei) 6g, Paeoniae Rubra Radix (Chishao) 6g, Malt (Jianqu) 6g, Arecae Semen (Binglang) 6g, Amomi Fructus (Sharen) 6g, Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu) 6g, Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Pu Xiao) 3g, Cardamomi Fructus Rotundus (Zikou) 3g, Moschus (Shexiang) 0.3g, Geocammelus (Tugou) 1 pair, Gecko (Shougong) 1 pair, General (Dajunjiang/Dujiaoniu) 3 pieces.

Preparation and Usage:
Grind the above herbs into powder. Dissolve 250g of white honey and 50g of lard. Mix with 20 drops of white rooster comb blood and the herb powder. Store in a bottle for use. Take 9g each morning and evening on an empty stomach, washed down with plain water. A course of treatment lasts 15 consecutive days.

Commentary: Shennong Pill was originally the main formula for treating esophageal cancer. The "National Medical and Health Technology Revolution Exhibition Introduction" in Issue 10, page 657 of *Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine* (1958) mentioned: "Liaoning exhibited Shennong Pill used by physician Xu Zhi and others to treat 188 cases of various cancers including upper digestive tract, cervix, and uterine body. According to statistics of 118 cases, improvement reached up to 70 cases." This formula possesses the effects of opening qi and moving stagnation, invigorating blood and resolving stasis, softening hardness and dissipating nodules. It has good anti-cancer and tumor-killing functions against cancer tumors. Therefore, Old Li widely applies it to various cancers as the main anti-cancer formula, combined with auxiliary formulas tailored to the specific syndrome of each cancer type, organically combining anti-cancer therapy with syndrome-based medication, achieving good results.

Six Series Formulas for Internal and External Treatment of Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer belongs to the categories of "Zheng Jia" and "Beng Lou" in TCM gynecology. The disease has a high incidence rate, accounting for more than 50% of female malignant tumors, ranking first among gynecological malignant genital tumors. Therefore, its prevention and treatment are of great significance. TCM believes that the occurrence of this disease is the result of the combined action of various causes, but generally, internal factors include emotional injury, Liver Qi stagnation, damage to Chong and Ren meridians, and deficiency of Liver, Spleen, and Kidney organs; external factors include damp-heat invasion, accumulation of cold and qi stagnation, blood cold damaging collaterals, and stasis blocking uterine collaterals. In the treatment of cervical cancer, as early as the early 1960s, Old Li collaborated with the Third Affiliated Hospital of Shanxi Medical College (Provincial Tumor Hospital), accumulating rich experience. Old Li believes that this disease is generally divided into two major categories: excess and deficiency. Generally, early and middle stages are mostly excess syndromes, while late and later stages show prominent deficiency syndromes. Excess syndromes often manifest mainly as damp-heat, stasis, toxicity, and Liver Qi stagnation. Treatment in the early and middle stages is key to this disease. Based on summarizing extensive clinical experience and combining previous literature records, targeting the two common clinical syndromes of damp-heat-stasis-toxicity and Liver Qi stagnation, Old Li created a series of internal (No. 1-3) and external (No. 1-3) formulas for treating cervical cancer, combining internal and external treatments, which achieved good clinical efficacy. [Indications] Damp-Heat-Stasis-Toxicity Syndrome.
Regardless of whether there is visible or invisible heaviness, patients feel obstruction in the vagina, heavy itching, pain, numbness, or bleeding fluid, or dryness without moisture, or accompanied by yellow-white vaginal discharge, or amenorrhea, or normal menstruation, or prolonged duration becoming a labor-injury difficult-to-treat syndrome. Yellow urine, bitter taste in mouth, dry throat, dark red tongue body, yellow greasy coating, slippery-rapid or string-slippery pulse.
[Preparation] Grind the above herbs into fine powder, make pills with refined honey, each pill weighing 9g.
[Usage] Take 1 pill per dose, twice daily, morning and evening on an empty stomach with boiled water. Can be used concurrently with External Prescription No. 1 and External Prescription No. 2.

2. Cervical Cancer External (Washing) Prescription No. 1
[Ingredients] Sophorae Flavescentis Radix (Kushen), Zanthoxyli Pericarpium (Chuanjiao), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu), Sophorae Japonicae Flos (Huaihua) each 6g.
[Indications] Damp-Heat-Stasis-Toxicity Syndrome.
[Preparation] Decoct the herbs, add Natrii Sulfas (Mangxiao) 9g.
[Usage] Pour hot into a basin, fumigate first, then wash. Use concurrently with Cervical Cancer Internal Prescription No. 1 and External Prescription No. 2.

3. Cervical Cancer External (Suppository) Prescription No. 2
[Ingredients] Calcined Alum (Kufan) 18g, Verdigris (Tonglv), Gambir (Wubeizi) 15g, Realgar (Xionghuang) 15g, Raw Peach Kernel (Sheng Taoren) 30g.
[Indications] Damp-Heat-Stasis-Toxicity Syndrome.
[Preparation] Grind the above herbs into fine powder, make oblong suppositories with refined honey, each weighing 16g.
[Usage] After fumigating and washing with Cervical Cancer External Prescription No. 1, wrap this suppository in gauze and insert into the vagina. Change dressing once daily.

4. Cervical Cancer Internal Prescription No. 2
[Ingredients] Chrysanthemi Flos (Yinhua), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix (Danshen), Gentianae Radix (Longdancao), Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdi), Moutan Cortex (Danpi), Polygonati Rhizoma (Bixie) each 15g; Peach Kernel (Taoren), Carthami Flos (Honghua), Frankincense (Ruxiang), Myrrha (Moyao), Podagric Herb (Fangji), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Akebia Caulis (Mutong), Alisma Rhizoma (Zexie), Plantaginis Seed (Cheqianzi) each 9g.
[Indications] Damp-Heat-Stasis-Toxicity Syndrome.
[Preparation] Decoct in water.
[Usage] Internal use and external washing, 2 doses daily, decocted in water. Take 1 dose internally, divided into 2 doses morning and evening; use 1 dose externally, pour hot into a basin after decoction, fumigate first, then wash.

5. Cervical Cancer External Prescription No. 3
[Ingredients] Calomelas (Qingfen) 3g, Borneolum Syntheticum (Meipian) 0.3g, Moschus (Shexiang) 0.15g, Scolopendra (Wugong) 2 strips, Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai) 15g.
[Indications] All types of Cervical Cancer.
[Preparation] Grind the herbs into powder, add appropriate base to make ointment.
[Usage] Insert ointment deeply into the vagina.
