The *Qianjin Fang* (Thousand Gold Formulas) treats sudden severe drunkenness, fearing intestinal rot:
Decoct the medicine into a soup and soak the body in a large vessel; when it cools, replace with fresh liquid. The alcohol will dissipate naturally; this is also excellent for use in summer.
Another formula:
Squeeze out the juice of *Imperatae Rhizoma* (Mao Gen, 茅根) and drink two sheng.
Another formula:
Crush fresh *Puerariae Radix* (Ge Gen, 葛根) to extract juice and drink it. If fresh ones are unavailable, decocting dried *Puerariae Radix* is also good.
Another formula:
Take one sheng of *Oryzae Fructus Preparatus* (Jing Mi, 粳米) and five sheng of water, boil until extremely soft, strain off the dregs, and drink the liquid; this is beneficial.
**Gehua Jiecheng Tang** (Kudzu Flower Decoction to Resolve Intoxication): Treats alcohol-induced diseases, characterized by vomiting and reflux, vexation and irritability, chest fullness, anorexia, and dysuria.
*Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride* (Qing Pi, 青皮) - 3 fen
*Moschae Moschoides* (Mu Xiang, 木香) - 0.5 qian
*Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium* (Ju Hong, 橘红)
*Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma* (Ren Shen, 人参)

*Amomi Fructus* (Sha Ren, 砂仁)
*Puerariae Flos* (Ge Hua, 葛花) - each 0.5 liang
Grind all ingredients into an extremely fine powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with warm water. Once a slight sweat is achieved, the alcohol disease will be cured.
Luo Qianfu stated: Alcohol is highly hot and toxic; its flavor and nature are entirely Yang, constituting a formless substance. If injured by alcohol, one should only employ dispersing methods to induce sweating for cure; this is the most excellent approach. Secondly, promoting urination is preferable. These two methods eliminate dampness from above and below respectively; how could alcohol disease persist? Currently, practitioners treat this condition using hot wine pills to purge downwards, or using *Pharbitidis Semen* (Qian Niu, 牵牛) and *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Da Huang, 大黄) to purge. This injures the tangible Yin blood while the disease affects the formless Yuan Qi, which is a grave error.
Inability to eat stems from deficiency of Yuan Qi in the Stomach. However, there are distinctions between cold deficiency and heat deficiency; treatment should differ accordingly.
**Xiaoshi Wan** (Digestive Pills): Treats inability to eat for several years.
*Bubali Semen* (Mai Ya, 麦芽) and *Saccharomyces* (Qu, 曲) - each 1 sheng
*Dried Ginger* (Gan Jiang, 干姜) - processed
*Pruni Mume Fructus* (Wu Mei, 乌梅) - roasted, each 4 liang
Grind into powder, mix with honey to make pills. Take 15 pills per dose, twice daily. Increase to 40 pills if necessary; this also treats regurgitation.
Another formula:
*Saccharomyces* (stir-fried yellow, 2 liang)
*Bubali Semen* (stir-fried yellow, 2 liang)
*Pruni Mume Fructus* (4 liang)
*Dried Chaenomelis Fructus* (Gan Mu Gua, 干木瓜) - 0.5 liang
*Poria* (Fu Ling, 茯苓)
*Licorice Root* (Gan Cao, 甘草)
Make honey pills the size of cherries. Take one pill at any time, chew thoroughly, and swallow with warm water. Another version excludes *Chaenomelis Fructus* but includes *Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma* (Ren Shen, 人参) and *Dried Ginger* (Gan Jiang, 干姜).
Another formula:

Sift the five ingredients, mix with honey, and take one cun-bi after meals with wine.
The above three formulas are all agents for treating inability to eat due to Stomach deficiency and cold.

Gao Gufeng said: The Kidney is the gate of the Stomach. If the gate is obstructed, ascending and descending functions cease. The gate is the center of Qi interaction, the pivot of Heaven. Thus, robust Kidney Qi ensures sufficiency; sufficient Stomach Yin induces desire to eat. If the gate is withered and Kidney Water cannot ascend, urgently nourish with *Liuwei Dihuang Wan* (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) plus *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Dang Gui, 当归) and *Paeoniae Radix Alba* (Bai Shao, 白芍). If Blood dryness causes intestinal dryness with black stool accumulation at the stomach base, moisten gently with *Rehmanniae Radix Preparata* (Shu Di Huang, 熟地黄) 5 qian, *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Dang Gui, 当归) 3 qian, *Paeoniae Radix Alba* (Bai Shao, 白芍) and *Persicae Semen* (Tao Ren, 桃仁) 2 qian, *Cannabis Semen* (Ma Ren, 麻仁) 3 qian. Observe if the physique is normal and Qi/Blood are sufficient; then add *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Da Huang, 大黄) 2 qian to assist the Blood-nourishing herbs. Once the Large Intestine is smooth, the Stomach opens naturally. After opening, administer large doses of *Liuwei Dihuang Wan* (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) or *Zuogui Wan* (Left Restoring Pill) classes; not many doses are needed for efficacy.
The above are agents for treating Stomach deficiency and Qi heat.
Fan Wang treated Stomach Qi deficiency causing inability to eat, heavy limbs, shortness of breath, harmonizing the Five Zang organs, and treating various diseases, with **Tiaozhong Tang** (Regulate the Middle Decoction):
*Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus* (Xie Bai, 薤白) - sliced, 1 sheng
*Immature Bitter Orange* (Zhi Shi, 枳实) - six pieces, roasted
*Tangerine Peel* (Ju Pi, 橘皮) - three pieces
*Jujube* (Da Zao, 大枣) - twelve pieces
*Oryzae Fructus Preparatus* (Jing Mi, 粳米) - 3 he
*Prepared Soybean* (Xiang Chi, 香豉) - 6 he
Add six sheng of water. First decoct *Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus* until four sheng remain. Add other drugs and decoct to obtain 1.5 sheng. Take when temperature is suitable. Another version includes 1 liang of *Fresh Ginger* (Sheng Jiang, 生姜).
The *Yannian* formula excludes *Zhi Shi* but includes *Poria* (Fu Ling, 茯苓) and *Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma* (Ren Shen, 人参).
Note: This formula uses pungent and sweet flavors to harmonize Stomach Yang and promote Grain Qi. For deficiency patterns, the *Yannian* formula is superior.
The *Baoshi Fang* treats Spleen and Kidney weakness causing complete loss of appetite, with **Ershen Wan** (Two-Kidney Pills):
*Cassi Semen* (Po Gu Zhi, 破故纸) - 4 liang, stir-fried
*Myristicae Semen* (Rou Dou Kou, 肉豆蔻) - 2 liang, raw
Grind into fine powder. Use forty-nine large fat dates and four liang of ginger, sliced, boiled together until dates are soft. Remove ginger, take dates, peel skin and remove pits. Mix date pulp with medicine and pound into pills the size of *Koelreuteriae Fructus* (Wu Zi, 梧子). Take 30 pills per dose with salt water. Someone who completely lost appetite found tonics ineffective; I gave them this formula, and they immediately regained appetite. This disease is not solely Spleen deficiency; it involves weak Kidney Qi and depleted True Yuan. It is like placing grain in a metal tripod without fire below; although all day passes, it does not cook, let alone digest. Huang Luzhi once recorded taking *Cuscutae Semen* (Tu Si Zi, 菟丝子), washed, soaked in wine, dried, and powdered. Taking several spoons daily with wine resulted in digestion like snow melting in hot water after ten days. This illustrates the same principle.
**Kuanzhong Jinshi Wan** (Middle-Widening Appetite-Stimulating Pills): Nourishes form and Qi, promotes dietary intake.
*Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma* (Ren Shen, 人参)
*Processed Ginger* (Pao Jiang, 炮姜)

*Amomi Fructus* (Suo Sha Ren, 缩砂仁) - stir-fried
*Rosted Licorice Root* (Zhi Gan Cao, 炙甘草) - each 1.5 qian
*Poria* (Fu Ling, 茯苓)
*Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium* (Ju Hong, 橘红)
*Alismatis Rhizoma* (Ze Xie, 泽泻)
*Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma* (Bai Zhu, 白术) - each 3 qian
*Immature Bitter Orange* (Zhi Shi, 枳实) - 4 qian
*Amomi Fructus* (Dou Kou, 豆蔻) - 5 qian
*Polyporus* (Zhu Ling, 猪苓) - 7 qian
*Brewer's Saccharomyces* (Shen Qu, 神曲) - stir-fried
*Moschae Moschoides* (Mu Xiang, 木香) - each 5 fen
*Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum* (Ban Xia, 半夏) - 7 qian
Grind into powder. Soak in decoction, steam with leavened dough, and make pills the size of *Koelreuteriae Fructus* (Wu Zi, 梧子). Take 30 pills per dose with rice gruel. Take before meals.
