Da Qianghuo Tang (Great Notopterygium Decoction): The Classic states: "Two-channel infection" (Liang Gan, 两感) is fatal. On day one, Taiyang and Shaoyin channels are affected simultaneously: headache, fever, aversion to cold, dry mouth, irritability, and thirst. Taiyang is a Fu organ, entering via back Shu points, known to all. Shaoyin is a Zang organ, entering via nasal respiration, unknown to many. Nasal qi connects to Heaven, so formless cold evil enters via nose. Kidney belongs to Water; water flows to dampness, thus Kidney receives it. Also: Heavenly evil qi harms the five Zang organs. Thus, internal-external dual infection affects both Fu and Zang. Wanting to release exterior creates interior conflict; wanting to purge interior creates exterior conflict. Since exterior and interior cannot be treated simultaneously, death ensues. However, constitution varies (deficient/excess) and pathogen depth varies. Deep invasion in deficiency is fatal; shallow invasion in excess may be treatable.
*Ingredients*: Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome, *Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix*), Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens Root, *Angelicae Pubescentis Radix*), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root, *Saposhnikoviae Radix*), Fangji (Stephania Root, *Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix*), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, *Scutellariae Radix*), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, *Coptidis Rhizoma*), Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome, *Atractylodis Rhizoma*), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma*), Xixin (Asarum Root, *Asari Radix et Rhizoma*), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root, *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata*) equal parts; Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizome, *Anemarrhenae Rhizoma*), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome, *Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma*), Shengdi (Rehmannia Root, *Rehmanniae Radix*) doubled. Slice all. Take 1.5 liang per dose, decoct in one large cup, drink hot. Repeat if no improvement.
This is a divine formula for resolving two-channel infections. If sha syndrome resembles this, modify and select accordingly.

Initial symptoms: aversion to cold, high fever, heavy body; progressing to severe head/face swelling, closed eyes, throat wheezing, dry tongue/mouth. Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction): Treats warm disease with body heat, spontaneous sweating, dry mouth, surging pulse. Divine for cholera, summerheat injury, sha syndrome.
*Ingredients*: Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, *Gypsum*) [roasted] 5 qian, Zhimu [3 qian implied].
Pathology: Disease in Yangming muscle layer means Taiyang exterior evil is resolved; hence no aversion to cold, no headache/body ache, only spontaneous sweating and fever. Classic says: When heat prevails, assist with bitter-sweet. Zhimu and Gancao resolve heat. Heat damages Qi; Rice and Gancao's sweetness tonifies Qi and treats insomnia/irritability. Irritability relates to Lung; restlessness to Kidney. Shigao is Sovereign; Zhimu's bitterness clears Kidney source. Shigao is heavy/sinking; Zhimu is cold/sinking. Rice/Gancao's sweetness moderates them to prevent rapid descent to Lower Jiao. White Tiger is Metal Deity, governing Autumn; summer heat declines in Autumn. Zhimu's bitter-cold protects Taiyin Lung Metal Qi. Hence named White Tiger, acting as an exterior-releasing herb for Three Yang channels. Note: Use only with sweating; contraindicated without sweating. Without sweating, must use Chaihu, Gegen, Shengma to release exterior. Do not mistake body heat for indication to use Baihu, which would trap heat preventing outward release.
I have verified warm diseases with prolonged lack of sweating sometimes require Baihu to resolve. Warm malaria suits Guizhi Baihu Tang, as stated in *Yifang Jijie*. Chaihu, Gegen, Shengma have their own indications, detailed in *Shanghan Lun Zhu*.
Record of Anomaly Case: Liu from Jingjiang, 40 years old, returned from outside after epidemics and multiple funerals. Mother died suddenly. Developed palpitations, insomnia, jumping/shouting upon slight sleep, heart feeling like swinging/hitting. Took Tianwang Buxin Dan for half month with no effect. I used a unique formula: Hupo Wan (Amber Pill). Three doses settled it (3.3 liang per dose, total 1 qian). Later developed strange symptom: normal diet, but sudden eye rolling, drooling, bleating like a sheep, head turning past left shoulder... [Text fragmented]. Complexion abnormal, prescribed another pill regimen for recovery and cure.
*Ingredients*: Zhen Hupo (True Amber, *Electrum*) [grind with lampwick] 4 qian; Chensha (Cinnabar, *Cinnabaris*) [fine powder, mix with pig heart blood], Baifan (Alum, *Alumen*) each 3 qian [boil thoroughly until cooked through, dry, use 8 qian]; Dansing (Calculus Bovis, *Bovis Calculus*) 6 qian; Shichangpu, Zhigancao each 5 qian; Zaoren (Zizyphus Seed, *Ziziphi Spinosae Semen*) 2 liang; Yuanzhi (Polygala Root, *Polygalae Radix*), Baifushen (Poria with Hostwood, *Poria cum Mycelium*), Juhong (Tangerine Albedo, *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium*), Guishen (Angelica Sinensis Root, *Angelicae Sinensis Radix*), Baiziren (Biota Seed, *Platycladi Semen*), Shanyao, Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber, *Ophiopogonis Tuberus*) each 1 liang. Bind with boiled date meat, pills size of wutong seeds. Coat with Jinbo (Gold Foil, *Folium Aureum*). Take 30 pills before bed with longan and lampwick water. Treats palpitations, amnesia, fright palpitations, epilepsy.
