Xutian Shengsanzi Fang (Continued Addition of Holy Dispersion Formula)
(This medicine is warm in nature; do not take lightly if there is Yang syndrome with heat.)
Su Neihan said: I once read the Sanjian San formula in Qianjin, which treats all diseases, but Sun Simiao wrote a treatise saying its dosage is unnatural, though effective for emergencies. Thus, divine things work flexibly, beyond normal rules. The Holy Dispersion I mention is of this kind. Since ancient times, Shanghan is critical; errors in sweating/purgation lead to death. If epidemic toxicity spreads, using Holy Dispersion ignores Yin/Yang differentiation; continuous intake brings cure.
Without illness, taking it on an empty stomach doubles appetite and prevents disease. It is a treasure. Source unknown. Given to Mr. Chao, so his name lives with the formula. Preface by Dongpo Jushi.

Equal parts cut into pieces the size of hemp seeds. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct in 1.5 zhan of water until 1 zhong zhan remains. Take again after a while. Rapid bowel movement stops high fever. Reduce dose for children. In autumn/summer, accumulated heat interrupted by sudden cold cannot dissipate, binds in muscles causing high fever. Stomach is the exterior of six fu organs, easily injured by sudden cold leading to diarrhea. Cold-deficient people do not get high fever, only diarrhea or cholera-like symptoms; do not take this. Slightly robust people can take it. People taking Five Minerals Pills prefer high fever; if this purges, they may die of heat/stuffiness. If purging continues, it becomes Bi Re Du (Bi-Heat-Toxin); severe persistent high fever requires Tiaozhong Tang to harmonize stomach qi. Removing Dahuang from Tiaozhong Tang and decocting Huang... is very effective.
