The three positions of Cun (Inch), Guan (Bar), and Chi (Cubit) are determined sequentially like the joints of a fish's tail bone. The ancient method defines the Guan position as level with the high bone at the wrist (radial styloid process). The second segment of the transverse crease is one Cun. Extending inward is one Chi. What is referred to here as "Cunkou" and "Chizhong" denotes the measurement of one Cun. Thus, Yin receives one Cun inside the Chi position, called "Chizhong," while Yang receives nine Fen inside the Cun position, called "Cunkou." This principle holds that the total length of Cun and Chi is merely one Cun and nine Fen. The term "Guan Shang" refers to the boundary between Cun and Chi. Once the positions of Cun and Chi are established, the position of Guan can be known. Some argue that the prominent bone behind the palm serves as the Guan, but this must be confirmed by methods for determining Cun and Chi.

Cun position: Corresponds to the Heart; the Small Intestine is its Fu organ; the Heart Fu is named "Shousheng" (Receiving and Holding).
Guan position: Corresponds to the Liver; the Gallbladder is its Fu organ; the Liver Fu is named "Qingjing" (Pure and Clear).
Chi position: Corresponds to the Kidney; the Bladder is its Fu organ; the Kidney Fu is named "Jinye" (Body Fluids).
Cun position: Corresponds to the Lung; the Large Intestine is its Fu organ; the Lung Fu is named "Chuansong" (Transporting and Conveying).
Guan position: Corresponds to the Spleen; the Stomach is its Fu organ; the Spleen Fu is named "Shuigu" (Water and Grain).
Chi position: Corresponds to Mingmen (Gate of Vitality); the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) is its Fu organ; the Mingmen Fu is named "Yuanqi" (Original Qi).
Five Zang Organs: Heart, Liver, Lung, Kidney, Spleen. By recognizing the pulses of the Five Zang organs, one can understand the meridians associated with receiving life.
Pulse Signs: Hong (Surging), Xian (Wiry), Fu (Floating), Hua (Slippery), Huan (Moderate). Observing these allows one to examine the deficiency and excess of the Exterior and Interior, and distinguish the principles of Yin-Yang reversal and compliance.
Five Elements: Fire, Wood, Metal, Water, Earth. These allow one to examine the source and flow of disease, and the principles of generation and restriction that may render treatment ineffective.
Four Seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, along with states of Wang (Prosperity) and Lu (Salary/Status). Observing the Yin-Yang of the four seasons corresponds to the Heart, Liver, Lung, Kidney, and Spleen.
Observation through Orifices: Tongue, Eyes, Nose, Ears, Lips. These five features allow for detailed observation, distinguishing between flourishing/withered states and life/death.
Five Emotions: Joy, Happiness, Anger, Sorrow, Fear. Diseases often arise from external events; deficiency and excess must be clearly distinguished.
Five Activities: Speech, Vision, Expression, Hearing, Thought. These activities trouble the Heart Mind; removing them brings abundant joy.
Five Functions: Clarity, Respect, Compliance, Acuteness, Wisdom. These are the roots of the Five Hearts; overuse leads to the decline of Shen Qi (Spiritual Energy).
Five Virtues: Philosophical, Solemn, Benevolent, Strategic, Sage-like. Guarding Shen Qi ensures no defeat; with age, understanding comes naturally.
Five Odors: Scorched, Pungent, Fishy, Foul, Rotten. When the Spleen is prosperous, it resides within Yuan (Origin); when the Stomach is deficient, vomiting and reflux occur.
Five Flavors: Bitter, Sour, Pungent, Salty, Sweet. Eating in moderation is good; greed in eating leads to illness and epidemics.
Five Colors: Yellow, Red, Green/Cyan, White, Black. (Whether thin or fat, Yin-Yang reversal is distinguished. Disease causes are visible in Qi and Color; nobility and baseness need not be discussed.)
Five Numbers: Fire (2-7), Wood (4-9), Metal (3-8), Water (1-6), Earth (5-10). (Bagua operates creation; all things nourish emptiness and spirituality. The nobility of the human body, and life/death determine flourishing or withering.)
Five Tones: Gong, Shang, Jue, Zhi, Yu. (Text contains numerical codes referring to tone classification). If one understands the Five Tones, one can emit the five sounds of pain (or correspond to the voices of the Zang organs).
Ten Heavenly Stems: Bing, Jia, Geng, Ren, Wu belong to Fire, Wood, Metal, Water, Earth (Yang); Ding, Yi, Xin, Gui, Ji belong to Yin. They correspond to the Heart, Liver, Lung, Kidney, Spleen. Through mutual generation and restriction, transformation occurs; Earth is the most prominent.
Twelve Earthly Branches: Si, Yin, Shen, Hai, Chen, Xu; Yin and Yang merge here. They generate with the Ten Stems. Wu, Mao, You, Zi, Chou, Wei. Knowing the hand diagram reveals knowledge of millennia; how could the principles of the human body remain unclear?
Five Directions: South, East, West, North, Center. Corresponding to Heart, Liver, Lung, Kidney, Spleen; Fire, Water, Metal, Wood, Earth. The Hexagrams divide into sixty-four; the profound transformations have unknown origins.
Above are the Five Zang organs, each having its attributes. There are further words not fully expressed, revealing hints of the message. Learners must be sharp and intelligent to achieve spiritual penetration.
