The five zang and six fu organs all possess jinye (body fluids). The liver opens into the eyes, and its fluid is tears. If liver qi is deficient, wind pathogens will take advantage of this to invade, causing the fluids to fail in their restraining function.
Therefore, tears flow frequently, and symptoms worsen when exposed to strong winds.
*Longmu Lun* states: Wind-induced tearing belongs to external obstruction eye diseases. This occurs when the eyes are first afflicted; brain wind pathogens enter the eyes, causing tears to flow out. After wiping them away, new tears form. In winter, there is more tearing; in summer, less. After three to five years, tearing persists regardless of season. This is because the tear hall connects with the lung organ, and long-term coldness within the viscera causes the eyes to gradually become dim and difficult to distinguish colors from. It is suitable to administer Xixin Wan (Asarum Pill) and Nuangfei Tang (Warming Lung Decoction), moxa-burn or heat the Jingming acupoint (BL1, Eye Brightening) with a heated copper chopstick, and apply Zhilei San (Tear-Stopping Powder) to achieve a cure.
The song says: Wind blows tears and blood flow, Unceasing in every winter. If the tear hall connects to the lung, Xixin Wan and powder cut off the root cause. Realgar and Schisandra applied against the wind, Heated copper chopsticks burn the head. Advise you to treat it early, To spare me future worry.
*Shiqin Shu* states: Regarding bathing for wind-induced tearing, calling it "cold tears" is incorrect. Liver fluids cannot be retained because excessive heat steams the liver. Extreme heat generates wind that rushes outward, while fire erupts inward. Wind and heat clash, causing tearing. Treating both internal and external factors can lead to recovery. For external treatment, use one Beimu (Fritillaria Bulb, white and fine), add seven Hu Jiao (Peppercorns), avoid copper and iron vessels, grind into fine powder, and apply before sleep. For internal treatment, use formulas that dispel wind and clear heat, such as Danggui Yinzi (Angelica Decoction). If yang heat is extreme, causing unbearable eyeball pain, administer Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Han Fangji (Stephania Root) and Longdan Cao (Gentian Root), followed by Shenxiong Wan (Divine Coptis Pill) 50-70 pills. Recovery follows after 3-5 bowel movements.
